Conversational Leadership Podcast: Student Outcomes Focused Governance
In the Fall of 2023, the Creighton School District officially adopted the Student Outcomes Focused Governance (SOFG) framework. This transition represents a fundamental shift in how our Governing Board operates, moving away from traditional board oversight and toward a relentless focus on student achievement. The SOFG framework is built on a single, powerful premise: "Student outcomes don't change until adult behaviors change."
Superintendent Jay Mann sits down with Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, Dr. Lorisa Pombo, for a two-part podcast series to discuss all things Student Outcomes Focused Governance as we kick off the 26-27 school year. You can listen to Part 1 and 2 using the links below.

Thanks to our voters, our next bond project is the remodeling and reimagining of Biltmore Preparatory Academy! We’re excited to build on BPA’s tradition of Spanish Dual Language excellence by updating and enhancing learning spaces—creating an environment that makes learning and language acquisition even better for students.

Kids Congress: Building Connections & Leadership
Our Kids Congress student leaders had an inspiring hands-on experience working directly with our rally keynote speaker, Mathew Blades!
During their interactive session, students dove into what it truly means to lead and build community together. Key highlights of their work included:
Understanding Each Other on a Deeper Level: Learning active listening and empathy to appreciate everyone’s unique perspective and feelings.
Leadership Without Being the Loudest: Exploring how true leadership comes from quiet confidence, lead-by-example moments, and listening to others —not just having the loudest voice in the room.
The Power of Authentic Connection: Discovering how strong relationships and meaningful peer connections form the foundation for a positive school culture.
We are so proud of these young leaders for stepping up, opening up, and leading the way for their peers this school year!
Literacy Focused at Creighton
Early literacy forms the foundation for a child's educational journey, language development, and long-term academic success. Building strong reading skills early in life enhances vocabulary, strengthens comprehension, and fosters critical thinking. Beyond academics, early reading nurtures imagination, curiosity, and emotional empathy.
Tips & Tricks for Promoting Literacy at Home
Read Together Daily: Set aside 15–20 minutes every day to read aloud. Let your child pick books that match their interests to keep them engaged.
Point Out Words in Everyday Life: Point to labels, street signs, store banners, and grocery lists to help children connect printed words with their real-world meanings.
Ask Open-Ended Questions: While reading, ask questions like "What do you think will happen next?" or "How do you think that character feels?" to build comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Create a Dedicated Reading Space: Designate a cozy, comfortable corner in your home with easy access to a variety of age-appropriate books.
Make Writing Fun: Encourage drawing, tracing letters, and scribbling lists or letters to family members to build fine motor skills and letter recognition.
Model Reading Behavior: Let your children see you reading books, news, or magazines. Children naturally imitate the habits of the adults around them.
