Dear Pleasant Valley Families,

I want parents and guardians to know that I need to take an extended period of time away from Pleasant Valley just before and after the winter break. Some of you may have seen me walking very carefully and slowly as I need knee surgery. Please contact our building administrators or office staff if you have any questions or concerns during my absence.

  • Chris Clute, Assistant Principal email: clutec@parmacityschools.org
  • Allison Kokely, Dean of Students, email: kokelya@parmacityschools.org
  • Kira Karabanovs, Dean of Students, email: karabanovsk@parmacityschools.org
  • Stacey Tober, Secretary email: tobers@parmacityschools.org

Until my return, the newsletter will be sent out from our Assistant Principal, Chris Clute.

Water bottles & Library Books

We have many returned library books with water damage. It is due to carrying them with water bottles in backpacks. We know these books were not intentionally damaged, but due to water damage, we will need to replace them and charge families for the replacement. Please talk to your child about storing water bottles in separate compartments of their backpacks with caps and lids tightly closed and spouts securely shut to avoid leakage. Most backpacks have outer side pockets designed to hold water bottles or containers away from books. Getting into this practice will serve them well as they start carrying devices in their backpacks in middle school. We do not want to charge families for the water damage, but we will have to for the cost to replace the book. We appreciate your attention and understanding of this matter.

Please remember that if you hear something from your child that doesn't seem right, check with your child's teacher immediately. Should safety ever be compromised, I will promptly notify all families. Creating a safe, orderly, and welcoming learning environment is crucial to educating our students and preparing them to reach their full potential. The safety of your children will always be our top priority. We have a very dedicated staff who work hard to ensure your child is welcomed and dismissed safely, whether traveling by car, bus, or walking.

Thank you for your partnership with Pleasant Valley. We are very appreciative of all of you! If you have any questions, concerns, or just a great idea you would like to share, please email Chris Clute @ clutec@parmacityschools.org until my return. You can also call the main office at (440) 843-3867 any weekday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Very Sincerely Yours,

Mrs. Stephanie Boka

The 27-item survey uses a 4-point rating scale (from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree). The survey completion time is approximately 10 minutes. Your participation will help us prioritize our next steps for maintaining and fostering an inclusive and responsive school community. Your voice is important!

Lost & Found Lost & Found

We have many items in our Lost and Found. It is VERY helpful when coats and items are labeled with a name so that we can get these items back with your child. Please label all coats and personal items if you are able to.

Student Dressing for Winter Weather Student Dressing for Winter Weather

As our weather cools, please ensure that your child is prepared for arrival, recess, and dismissal. Students will be outside as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 20 degrees. In addition, students will be outside for car rider dismissal in light rain. Umbrellas, rain jackets, hats, gloves, and an appropriate jacket are important for our students.

Cool-Tastic Kids Book Fair Parma Snow Branch Cool-Tastic Kids Book Fair Parma Snow Branch

On the weekend of December 6-7, Parma-Snow will be hosting its first ever “Cool-Tastic Book Fair!" This is event is for kids & families to celebrate reading and browse a wide selection of children and teen book titles, free to check out with a library card! There will be lots of cool free giveaways such as fun pencils, erasers, posters, and more! Each child will also be able to choose a free book to keep and take home, while supplies last. The event will be going all day that the library is open on Dec. 6, 9-5:30, and on Sunday Dec. 7, 1-5. The event is completely free and no registration required! The goal of this event is to bring the magic of reading to kids in a way that eliminates the financial barriers to materials that exist in privatized book fairs. We want to bring kids into the library that possibly haven’t been before and want to use this as an opportunity to promote all of the wonderful services that the library has to offer. With so many barriers for success that kids are currently facing, we want this to be an event that promotes community and that cements literacy and the library in our communities!

Birthday & Invites Policy Birthday & Invites Policy

If a generous family would like their child to pass out a birthday treat, we recommend a non-edible one that can be passed out and sent home at the end of the day.

If you DO NOT want your child to receive a birthday treat from a classmate, please let their teacher know.

Gifts for students may not be delivered to the school. Balloon deliveries, gift baskets, flowers, etc. disrupt the educational process for all students. Birthday parties during the school day can not be accommodated.

Please check with the classroom teacher before sending any birthday or other treats to school for the class.

Some of our children have food allergies; therefore, all treats must be ready to pass out to the class, store-bought, labeled with ingredients, and individually wrapped.

Store-bought cupcakes in a sealed container with an ingredient label are also acceptable.

Distributing invitations to non-school activities such as birthday parties is prohibited unless all students of at least one gender in the class are invited.
