Principal's Message
Greetings, Berkmar Middle School Families,
As we wrap up our first month of school and head into September, thank you for your continued partnership and support. We especially appreciate all of the families who joined us for Curriculum Night. Your involvement plays an important role in your child’s success.
As we continue to Focus Forward, we encourage families to regularly check ParentVUE for updates on grades, assignments, and academic progress. Please take time to talk with your child about how they are doing, celebrate their successes, and identify any areas where additional support may be needed.
Daily attendance is also an important part of student success. Please help your child arrive at school on time and ready to learn each day. Students are considered tardy after 9:15 a.m. Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to instruction and make the most of each school day.
We are excited about the learning and growth ahead and look forward to continuing to work together to support every student.
Warm Regards,
Felecia C. Jones
Principal

A Message From Parent Center
PROVIDE TIME FOR THINKING! Your scholar is learning more than facts and figures.
Your child is learning how to think.
How to nurture developing thinking skills:
- Give your child time to figure out solutions independently. If your child has forgotten how to solve a math problem or what an assignment was, ask: “How could you find out?”
- Discuss current events. Give your child an article to read on an issue. Ask for your child’s opinion on the topic. Then, ask why your student thinks other people might disagree.
- Encourage reflection. When your child has completed a project, ask questions about how the process went. “Did you allow enough time to finish?” “What did you learn?”

Communication: Addressing Concerns at School
GCPS encourages families to follow these steps to resolve concerns:
1. Teacher - First, talk to your child’s teacher or a counselor at school for assistance. Most concerns are resolved at the classroom level.
2. Assistant Principal - If the concern is not resolved at the classroom level, please visit with your child’s assistant principal.
3. Principal - If working with the AP does not adequately address the issue, please meet with the school principal.
4. Cluster Superintendent - If the issue persists, please call 678-301-6000, and ask to speak to the cluster superintendent who is assigned to the school your child attends.
5. Chief of Schools - If, after following steps one through four, your concern has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please contact the Chief of Schools for School Improvement and Operations.
Other Resources
If you are experiencing an emergency, dial 9-1-1. The GCPS Hotline for anonymous reporting of potential violence is 770-822-6513. If you have a non-emergency criminal concern, please contact local law enforcement.
