York High School Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are having a great week. Quarter one ends next Friday, October 31. The Student Council is encouraging all students to wear costumes to celebrate the end of the quarter. If students elect to wear a costume to school, they cannot have masks covering their faces, weapons, or any type of blood.
Looking forward to seeing you all tonight @ 6:00 for our showing of "Screenagers: The Next Chapter" and expert panel discussion with YHS staff and students.
Next Wednesday is opening night for our Drama Club's performance of "POE: A Ghost Story". Come out to support our theatrical students. I hear it may be a bit spooky!
Enjoy the rest of your week. If you have any questions or need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thanks,
Amanda
Sam is a self-proclaimed Francophile, with a deep appreciation for French language and culture. Foreign language teacher Kendall Perkins, describes Sam as exceptional in his self-direction and motivation to master the language, in addition to being participatory in class and diligent in his work ethic. His authentic curiosity, commitment to citizenship, and drive make him a wonderful representative of YHS pride - bravo, Sam!
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 6, and Thursday, November 13, with teachers being available between 2:30-7:00. This time is another way for you to get feedback about your student’s learning, aside from PowerSchool. York High School uses an online format, PTC Wizard, to schedule conferences. Although the time to sign up online does not open until Thursday, October 30, at 2:00 PM, we wanted to share this information with you now for your planning.
Key points regarding conferences:
Conferences are set for 12 minutes each.
Students are expected to attend with parents, as they are critical participants in their learning.
Conferences will be held in person. If you need an alternative accommodation, please reach out directly to the teacher.
I strongly encourage you to reach out to school personnel anytime, not just at conferences. Staff are always available by email, and would be happy to talk via phone call or meet in person at a mutually agreed-upon time as well.
If you have any questions regarding PTC Wizard or signing up for conferences, please reach out to Stephanie DeMartini -- sdemartini@yorkschools.org

College Rep Visits
College rep visits are starting up, and they'll be held in person or virtually this year. These visits are a great chance to talk with college representatives about their campuses and what they offer. Sometimes, the reps you meet with are the same admission counselors who will be reviewing your application!
There are many colleges and universities visiting, so be sure to check out all the available slots in Naviance. For virtual visits, it's important to be in a quiet space so you can have a clear conversation.
Juniors and seniors can sign up and reserve their spot through Naviance by clicking on the "What's new" window on your Naviance home page. If you need a quiet place to participate, please let Student Services know ahead of time. If you have any questions, please reach out to us in Student Services.
