Section 1: Local & National Hiring Opportunities: Your Pivot Guide 🧭
1. You're Hired! 👏
If you have lost your federal job due to cuts, or just want to get out, New York says "You're Hired!"
https://www.ny.gov/programs/federal-workers-we-want-you
2. 🔥 PROMPT FOR NATIONAL READERS:
Find your State's Job Bank!
🔎All U.S. states run their own official job bank (like the NYS Job Bank). To find yours, simply type this into Google: [Your State Name] State Job Bank (e.g., Georgia State Job Bank).
Section 2: Workshops and Learning | Training opportunities
1. Upskill for 2026: NYS Virtual Workshops (Local Focus)
In a labor market that rewards focus and preparation, your strongest pivot tool is investing in the essential "two-track" skills: AI Fluency and Human Strengths. Whether you are a student, a professional pivoting careers, or a parent re-entering the workforce, foundational skills and certifications are an immediate path to increased value.
To start your year with the right skills, the NYSDOL is offering FREE virtual workshops.
Workshops for Strategic Skill Development in January:
Jan 6th @ 11am - Upskilling
Jan 8th @ 11am - Resume Development
Jan 15th & 29th @ Various times - Transferable Skills
Jan 20th @11am - Skills Based Resume Writing
Jan 22nd @ 11am - SUNY Microcredentials
Jan 26th @11am - Learn New Skills with Coursera
Jan 30th @1pm - Salary Negotiation

2. National Training & Resource Finder (Universal Focus):
👇👇👇
Your state's equivalent of these free workshops and training programs are typically managed by your local American Job Center. Use the American Job Center Finder (from the Hiring Pulse section) to contact your nearest office and ask for their Job Seeker Workshop Calendar. They have classes on every topic listed above!
Section 3: Industry insights (tip of the day)
Let's talk about what's actually working in today's job market—because the career world is changing fast, and we want to keep your strategy ahead of the curve.
The biggest mistake we see? Focusing purely on technical skills. Here’s the real scoop:
Yes, tech literacy is important, but what employers are consistently demanding through 2026 aren't just coding languages or software tools. According to a Pearson Skills Outlook report analyzing over 21 million job postings, the most essential skills are still human-centered.
AI can automate tasks, but it can’t replace your judgment or your ability to build trust. These are your true differentiators.
Think of your professional development as two tracks running side-by-side:
Track 1: AI Fluency. Learn how to use AI safely, ethically, and productively to boost your output.
Track 2: Human Strengths. Deepen your resilience, creative problem-solving, and relationship-building.
To show employers you mean business, certifications matter. CompTIA research shows that 93% of HR managers consider industry-recognized certifications when hiring for tech roles. They are a powerful, fast way to validate high-demand skills.
If you're an early-career professional or switching industries, you’re in an unusually tight market. NACE data shows a weak expansion in college hiring, which means employers are being extremely selective. They don't just want a degree; they want proof.
Students and career shifters need to enter the conversation with rigorous clarity of purpose, demonstrable skills, and tangible achievements showcased through portfolios or micro-experiences.
Don't just tell them what you can do—show them. 👍
The takeaway? The job market rewards focus and preparation. Invest in your uniquely human skills, and you’ll be ready to race with the machines, not against them.
