OLVCS Updates

September 14th, 2023

Dear OLVCS Parents and Friends,

Today after Mass we participated in a Eucharistic Procession. It was a moving experience to watch Fr. George, with the Holy Eucharist, process past our entire school, while the church bells chimed.

It sure has been a whirlwind the past few weeks. Back to School Nights, Fall Photos with a Dress Down Day; we have been on the go.

In addition our Coed Soccer and Girls Volleyball teams have begun their competitions. It is great to have such a vibrant and active school. Moving forward, we are now in the full swing of Walk-A-Thon. The funds we raise help support and keep OLVCS as I stated above, vibrant and active. Athletics is one of many ways the funds support the school. As we waited for our bus last week, the girls waved good-bye to students, how sweet is that?

Make it a Great Week!

Samantha Weakland

How Do Walk-A-Thon Funds Impact Our School?

zoom_out_map

Here's What Our Teachers Have To Say About The Walk-A-Thon!

"It started with field trips, then Chrome books, then air conditioning and Promethean boards...the money the Walk-A-Thon has raised has changed the way I teach and the way my students learn."
"Walk-A-Thon is a great way to increase support and help for our Athletic teams. Transportation to games, uniforms, facilities are all contributed through donations for Walk-A-Thon."
"Walk-A-Thon is an event that not only provides us with the curriculum materials and supplies that we need to teach, but it allows the preschool kids to feel like they are doing the same as the big kids and it makes them feel proud."
"My classroom really benefits from the Walk-A-Thon donations. Many things in my classroom have been purchased with money from these donations. Past years donations have allowed our school to purchase the technology for our school, items like ipads, and chromebooks for each student. As well as online subscriptions that we use in class, IXL, Spelling Stars, and Schoology."
"The Walk-A-Thon shows our students the power of community and service when they see friends, families, parishioners, and community members coming together in support of our school and Catholic education. They get to witness first hand the impact that the donations have on them as a student with field trips, technology, classroom supplies, and so much more."

OLV Girls Volleyball Plays Strong Against Southern Huntington and Sugar Valley

zoom_out_map

First game jitters got the best of the 8th grade girls in their first match of the season on Thursday, September 7th. In the first game, the Southern Huntington Rockets topped the Crusaders, 25 – 12. But, despite a number of good rallies in the 2nd game, the OLV 8th grade team could not get the win. The final score of the 2nd game was 25 – 23. The 7th grade team fared better against the Rockets’ 7th grade team, with 2 wins: 19 – 25 and 16 – 25.

On Friday, the OLV Volleyball team took on the team Sugar Valley Rural Charter School. Due to time constraints only 3 games were played, and OLV won each handedly: 7 – 25 (A game), 8 – 25 (B game), and 13 – 15 (B-game). The OLV Volleyball team will take on the team from Sugar Valley again on Tuesday. This game is scheduled to begin at 4PM and will take place in the Saint Joseph’s gymnasium.

On Wednesday, the OLV Soccer Team took on the Bald Eagle Area Middle School Boys team at the Bald Eagle Field. The Crusaders held the BEA Eagles to no score until the last minute of the first half. While a little deflated, the score did not take the fight out of our team. About halfway through the 2nd half, with the support of the whole OLV team, 8th Grader, Jacob Andreyo, was able to score a goal for the Crusaders. The game ended in a tie: 1 -1. The OLV Soccer team’s next game is on Tuesday against East Juniata.
