Put me in coach ... I'm ready to play! The Bricks opened the 2024 season with a 3-game road trip in week #1 and our boys were FANTASTIC!!
Monday, Hobart traveled to Merrillville for game #1. Even though it was a bit cold outside, the Brickies warmed up their bats and scored 2 runs in the 1st, 4 more in the 2nd, and tacked on 4 more over the final 3 innings to CRUISE to an easy 10-0 VICTORY in just 5 innings!! Junior pitcher Drew Burris was RIDICULOUS on the mound in surrendering just 2 hits, allowing 1 walk and striking out 9 batters in a complete game SHUTOUT! In the batters box, senior Nick Sobczynski led the attack with 2 hits and 2 runs scored ... classmate Carlos Santana (1 2B & 2 RBIs) and juniors Aiden Leonard (1 2B & 1 RBI) & Alex Martin (1 3B) all had extra-base hits ... and junior Jayme Hairston added 2 RBIs in the Brickie win!
On Tuesday, the Bricks were scheduled to host Washington Township, but heavy rain late Monday night and throughout the day on Tuesday caused a postponement.
With the Tuesday rainout, a short trip to River Forest on Thursday afternoon became game #2. After a scoreless first inning of play, Hobart plated 3 runs in the 2nd to take an early lead! Some excellent D-D-D-DEFENSE was on display over the next 2 innings and the score remained 3-0 heading into the 5th. In the top half of the inning, the Brickies EXPLODED for 6 runs and then added 4 more in the 6th to earn a 13-1 VICTORY!! Seniors Jevan Andrews (2-for-4 with 1 2B & 1 RBI) & Gabe Nunez (2-for-4 with 4 RBIs) each had multi-hit games for Hobart to help the offense record a second straight double-digit WIN! Nunez also combined with junior Aiden Leonard on the bump to strike out 7 batters and only surrender 4 hits in the win!
Game #3 was also on the road ... this time the destination was Griffith. On Friday night, the Bricks CAGED UP the Panther offense, earned their 2nd shutout of the opening week, and won their 3rd STRAIGHT by 10+ runs!! Final score: Hobart 10, Griffith 0. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOAAAARRD YEESSS!! Andrews again led the attack going 2-for-2 at the plate with a 2B and 3 runs scored! Junior Connor Stafford matched him with 3 runs scored and added 3 RBIs ... Nunez also tallied 3 RBIs in the win and sophomore Zach Terek pitched 4 innings to earn the W on the mound!
The Brickies are 3-0 on the year ... winning by a combined score of 33-1! HOLY COW!! Hobart will be back at it this upcoming week with another 3-game set!! DON'T STOP NOW BOYS!!
