Message from Ms. Gullo

Dear Yellow Springs Families,

Thank you for completing the recent intent form in regards to FCPS’ hybrid instruction scheduled to start January 28, 2021. This information is important for us as we plan for the hybrid model of instruction. In our planning for hybrid instruction, we will work hard to minimize changes in your child’s teacher, but please know this is a possibility, regardless if you have selected hybrid instruction for your child or if you selected for your child to continue virtual instruction. We value the relationships our students and families have built with their teachers and we have no reservations in our abilities in developing new relationships if a change in teacher occurs.

Planning for our move to hybrid instruction is in full gear. We will work to ensure families receive information in a timely manner. Information regarding your child’s schedule and cohort will be available mid-January.

Congratulations to our students in making history by participating in our county’s first virtual snow days this week! Our students showed that same excitement for seeing the first snow flake fall while in their little Yellow Springs, the same as they do in the school building. The only difference was we did not have to worry about transporting students home on potentially slippery roads.

Best wishes to all our students and families for an enjoyable winter break! Stay safe and well and look forward to the new year! Best regards, Sue

Hybrid Transportation Clarification

On the parent intent form for the hybrid instruction model, the transportation options did not include day care vans. If your child will be transported to YSES by a day care center during hybrid instruction, please contact the school office at (240)236-1700.

Mental Health Matters

We have faced so many unexpected challenges in 2020 due to the global health crisis. As a result, FCPS is introducing mental health resources for students, staff, and the community.

  • The new Mental Health Matters webpage offers a variety of resources, including videos, activities, and contacts.
  • FCPS will be sharing Wellness Wednesday social media posts with a mental health focus.

As we continue navigating challenging times, it is more important than ever to focus on mental health.

Federal Impact Survey

FCPS MAY RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT (under Public Law 81-874) based on the number of pupils whose parents are in active military service or whose parents live or work on federal property in Maryland.

All parents should have received a survey link via email from PowerSchoolRegistration on December 2, 2020. Please complete the survey as soon as possible when you receive it.

This survey is conducted annually.

FCPS is Hiring Lunch Monitors

FCPS has received a grant that will fund lunch monitor positions at each of the elementary schools. These monitors would supervise and assist students during lunch times (opening containers, disposing of trash, etc). Anyone who was not previously employed by FCPS would need to be fingerprinted and have a background check. Yellow Springs would be able to have a paid lunch monitor for approximately 3 hours each day. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact the office at (240)236-1700.
