Principal Corner
Good morning, Chapelfield families,
Thank you for coming to Parent Teacher Conferences over the last 2 weeks. We value your partnership. Having a chance to talk about your child with our teachers is incredibly important as they develop as learners. If you missed this opportunity, please reach out to your child's teacher to connect. We will send home NWEA MAP scores and Acadience reports if you didn't attend to share where you child is currently in reading and math.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller
School Counseling Connection with Mrs. Jasin
Dear Families,
While our Start with Hello week may be over, our work to build a strong sense of belonging continues every day.
When children feel like they belong, they are more engaged, confident, and ready to learn. You can help reinforce this at home by encouraging your child to:
Notice others: Look for classmates who might be sitting alone or need a partner.
Say hello and invite in: A simple greeting or invitation can make a big difference.
Practice kindness daily: Small acts—like sharing supplies or offering a compliment—help create a welcoming community.
Celebrate differences: Remind your child that our unique qualities make our school stronger.
Together, we can ensure that every student feels connected and cared for, both at school and beyond. Thank you for supporting this important work and helping us create a community where everyone belongs.
Warmly,
Mrs. Jasin

NWEA MAP Results
Dear GJPS Families,
Our staff has been reviewing the data gathered through the MAP assessments administered in September and are looking forward to using it in the classroom to help guide instruction. Your child’s Fall Family Report is included with this letter. When looking at your child’s reports, the RIT score indicates overall academic achievement in reading and mathematics. The RIT percentile describes how your child’s score compares nationally to other students in the same grade. You may notice that your child’s percentile looks different than before. Starting this fall, MAP will use a new set of national norms that are more reflective of students’ performance now and not to performance from several years ago. As more test administrations are completed, reports will begin to show multiple data points that indicate the learning trajectory of your child as measured by MAP assessments.
Families may access the Family Guide to MAP which provides a great summary of the MAP assessment and a general explanation of the results. Translated versions of the guide can be found here. The MAP Family Toolkit is another resource that provides information, videos and additional family resources for the MAP suite of assessments.
As with all other assessment data, it is important to remember the MAP assessment is only one measure that we use to determine your child’s strengths and instructional needs. If you have any questions regarding this assessment or your student’s results, please contact your child’s teacher or building administrator.
Sincerely,
Tia Holliman

Library with Mrs. Long
First of all, THANK YOU for all of your support during the Book Fair. I would also like to say a big thank you to all of the adults who volunteered and helped. We were able to earn over $1300 to purchase new books for the library and every classroom!
We are currently reading the books that have been nominated for the Buckeye Children’s Book Awards. Only the students in Ohio can nominate books and vote on the winner! There are five books nominated for grades K-2, and five books nominated for grades 3-5. Next week we will read the fifth book and all students will vote on their favorite.
Powerful Words
We are starting each lesson with a Powerful Word that is connected to our books. Students use the words in a sentence, and also discuss the book while using the word. Here are the words we have already learned.
Baffled: confused or puzzled
Perspective: the way someone sees or understands something, either from where they are standing, or the experiences they have had
Brouhaha (3-5 only): a noisy and overexcited response or reaction to something
Grades K, 1, and 2
We have read Mr. Fox’s Game of No by David LaRochelle, Bakery Dragon by Devin Elle Kurtz, Home in a Lunchbox by Cherry Mo, and The Yellow Bus by Loren Long. Next week we will be reading Ursula Upside Down by Corey R. Tabor and then voting!
Grades 3, 4, and 5
We have read Bunny and Clyde by Megan McDonald, Old School by Gordon Korman, Investigators: Class Action by John Patrick Green, and They Call Me No Sam! by Drew Daywalt. Next week we will be reading My Block Looks Like by Janelle Harper.
Students in grades 2 - 5 have also been shown how to use the Fetch catalog to look up library books. They also have digital dashboards in their Media Google Classroom to support their learning in their ELA Wit & Wisdom modules, as well as a digital dashboard to further explore the books we have been reading for the Buckeye Children’s Book Award. Students can access these from home by signing in to Classlink, or by going to the Library website.
Happy Reading and Learning! - Mrs. Long
Stay in the Game Attendance Network
Dear Families,
Do your part in ensuring you get to school on time and ready to learn! If you haven't done so already, take the pledge!
Sincerely,

Attendance Procedures
Pursuant to House Bill 410, student attendance is calculated in hours. This includes absences that have been identified as both excused and unexcused by the school, as well as planned absences. Being late or tardy to school does calculate into the total hours absent.
If your child is going to be absent for any portion of the school day, please notify the school. You may report an absence by using our Online Absence Reporting available in the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. To enter a request follow these simple steps:
1.Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
2. Select your child’s profile.
3. Navigate to the Absence Request section.
4. Fill in the required information, including the date and reason for the absence.
5. Submit your request.
You will be able to view the status of your request using the View Requests button.
You may also call Chapelfield at 614-478-5575 or email our secretary at gilzows@gjps.org.
Medical excuses from a doctor can be submitted to Stephanie Gilzow, our school secretary, through email (gilzows@gjps.org) or sending in a paper copy.
Parent Phone calls to change transportation
The front office is a busy place the last 30 minutes of school. We ask that parents NOT CALL to make transportation changes after 2 p.m. Please make sure students know your plan of pick up before they come to school.
