TPS District Newsletter Tewksbury Public Schools

December 2022 December 2022

Message from the Superintendent

Dear TPS Community,

We are happy to tell you that the District Central Office administrators and staff are getting settled into our new office space. While we tend to the punch list and get fully unpacked, it is amazing to have us all back together in one beautiful space. Thank you for your patience with us during this major move.

There is also a palpable excitement in the air as the new Center Elementary School (CES) is very close to completion! Finishing touches are being made at the school for move-in day. Next week In preparation for the big day, our students and teachers from grades 2, 3, and 4 will be taking field trips to their new school. The movers will bring the packed classroom materials over during the December break. Then during the December break, there will be an optional guided tour for the CES students accompanied by a parent or guardian. This is an opportunity for parent and child to get acquainted with the school, together with Principal Harding and Assistant Principal Rogers, and to ask questions to ease some of the anxiety they may be experiencing in anticipation of this move. Again, this is an optional opportunity only for the students of the new school. Mr. Harding and Mr. Rogers will be sharing a sign-up link with the parents of students in grades 2-4 in their own school newsletters.

I hope the whole TPS community joins us in wishing all the members of the CES a successful transition to their new school. Please also know that a public showing and tour opportunity will be coming a few weeks after we get our students settled in. We are truly thankful for the support of the Tewksbury community in providing us with this new state-of-the-art facility for the benefit of our students. We also want to thank everyone for their patience as you await the unveiling of the new CES.

For now, please see the links below that describe the new traffic pattern and important safety information if you will be visiting our Central Offices, Athletic Complex, the Ryan School, or the Center Elementary School during and outside of school hours. Please also see the details below as we close the book on 2022 and prepare for the new year. May the 2023 year be full of bright opportunities for all our students, families, and staff of the TPS community. The Assistant Superintendent and I wish you all peace and good health and a joyous Holiday break with family and friends. Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Brenda Theriault-Regan, Superintendent

Lori McDermott, Assistant Superintendent

VERY IMPORTANT: New TRAFFIC Procedures for the Ryan & CES

The new Ryan and Center Elementary School (CES) access road is now officially open!

This new road is a 2-lane ONE WAY road, all the way around. Please enter at the Ryan side of the road (at the new sign) and travel all the way around to do a drop off, pick-up, and to exit the campus. Please also remember to let traffic pass on the left and do not block the parking lot or van entrances and exits.

Parents should not park in the staff parking lots to drop off and/or pick up students. Please be mindful that Ryan & CES staff, Central Office staff, and TMHS students will need to use the left lane to pass you and enter the appropriate parking lots throughout the morning and afternoon traffic.

For the safety of all involved, it is imperative to adhere to the posted 15-mile-per-hour speed limit at all times and at all points along the ONE-WAY access road loop. Please provide yourself a couple of extra minutes to account for this new access road traffic pattern.

PLEASE WATCH the next 2 videos below to assist you in this new process.

A Note from Mrs. Cracchiolo, District-wide Literacy Coach
A Literacy Workshop for the Caregivers of Scholars in Grades K - 2

Extensive research has shown that students achieve more in school when their caregivers are informed of and involved in their education. Please join our team of teachers and administrators as we share how the "science of reading" is changing instruction in today's K-2 classrooms and offer ideas for how to build upon this important work at home when reading with young children. We'll meet on January 26, 2023 at 6:00PM in the brand new Center Elementary School. Please use the link below to help us plan. Thank you!

REMEMBER to use the MyView Bus Locator App
With the opening of the new school, some bus routes may be impacted.
Please follow directions to track your child's bus below.

MyView is an easy-to-use mobile app that allows you to check on the location of your student’s school bus. The app allows you to view a real-time, map-based bus locator which can alert you by email or text when the bus enters a specific zone (i.e., a mile from your bus stop).

All parent information is locked down and password protected within the app to prevent unauthorized people from opening the app and viewing the student’s bus information.

To set up Zonar MyView:

  1. Download the Zonar MyView app from the App Store or Google Play.

  2. Enter the School Access Code when prompted - STA9559.

  3. Go to your child's Aspen account: (If you do not remember your access to ASPEN, please contact your student’s school secretary.)

  • Enter your child's LASID which can be found in ASPEN.
  • Enter your child's bus route you wish to follow
  • Create alert zones around drop-off and pick-up points (usually your own address).

It will take 24 hours for your newly created account to become active. If, after 24 hours, you have any questions about the use of this app, please email Tewksbury Transit at tti@tewksburytransit.com.
