Nichols Navigator News #14

Hello Navigators,

We had an eventful week with Halloween, the Apex Fun Run and our new playgrounds were opened! Students learned the rules of the playground and had so much fun playing. Please make sure students wear appropriate shoes to play in. Our playground has wood chips to create a soft surface and we cannot have students with open shoes, sandals, crocs, etc...

Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday, November 10th, in recognition of Veterans day.

Our Leader in Me Clubs, for 1st - 5th grades, are now up and running every Friday afternoon. Students are so excited and many are leading their clubs. Ask your student about the club they have joined!

Thank you for the improved attendance since our last announcement. Attendance is so importance and we are giving awards to grade levels and classes with the best attendance. Being on time and staying the full day are also critical as it can be difficult to miss part of the day and walk in late during a lesson. If you can avoid early pick-ups, especially during the last half hour of the day that would be very helpful.

We completed our Apex Fun Run on Thursday and we thank everyone for their contributions and helping with the event. There was a lot of fun around campus with Apex and the run was a success. We do not have our final numbers but it looks like the fundraiser will bring over $10,000 to Nichols. I will let you know the final number when it is available.

Each year we create a Family Engagement Policy and approve through School Site Council to promote collaboration between home and school. Here is this years policy. Spanish

On Wednesdays we will have Nichols Spirit days. Wear Nichols gear or wear blue!

The BASE PROGRAM provides Before & After School care. If you are interested in enrolling your Child, please contact them through their website.

We are so thrilled with out STEAM program. STEAM stands for Science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. We have Ms. Pauels who teaches the STEM parts of STEAM and Ms. Harmon who teaches Art. Check out the STEAM Newsletter for the latest information.

Oceanside Unified School District has partnered with Care Solace to help families in need of mental health support. This services can help quickly find available services. We know there are times when issues come up that need to be resolved. OUSD has created a chain of communication that allows for an efficient resolution process. This is now located on our school’s website under “Our School” called Chain of Communication.
