A Message from Mrs. Domenica Beiter, Director of Admissions and Development

Dear Families,

On November 17th, applications for the 2026-2027 school year will open. We prioritize enrollment for current families, so if you have an another child who you would like to enroll at St. Mary's, please complete an application this fall. Please note that there are waitlists for certain grade levels, so the sooner you complete the better. Be on the lookout for an email when applications become available.

Thank you to our generous Parent Volunteer Council who started a new initiative this year -- the Monthly Teacher Appreciation Lounge Refresh! We are so grateful to Beatka, Beth, Jayme, and Monica for coordinating this and to all our families for showing ongoing appreciation to our dedicated teachers. Shoutout to grade 5 families for sponsoring the first month!

Veteran's Day Prayer Service

This morning, some of our 8th graders led our school community in a special Veterans Day prayer and reflection. Together, we paused to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of all the men and women who have worked to protect and serve our country. We were reminded how thankful we are for all those who have protected our country and worked to make the world a more peaceful place

Vibha shared that Veterans Day has its roots in the end of World War I, when fighting ceased on the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” in 1918. Originally known as Armistice Day, it became Veterans Day in 1954 to recognize all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Paula and Amdwin led us in prayer, reminding us that as followers of Jesus, we are called to be peacemakers, bringing love and kindness wherever we go. Today, we prayed for and gave thanks for all veterans and all current members of the military. We finished the service with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thank you to all veterans, especially all the veterans who are and have been part of the St. Mary's community! Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanksgiving Pie Program - A Message from the Parent Volunteer Council

We are proud to once again conduct the school-wide Thanksgiving Pie Program to thank teachers and staff at St. Mary's for all they do for our children. It would be so helpful if you would be willing to donate a pie or pies to help make this possible! Each staff member who wants to participate will be gifted a pie before the Thanksgiving holiday to take home to their families and friends, all from the generosity of our school community.

Details of the program can be found in the sign up sheet below. Thank you so much for your help to make this a school-wide show of appreciation. Any questions can be directed to Jayme Simovic at jayme.simovic@gmail.com.

Parking Lot Prayers

This week's Parking Lot Prayers were led by grade 6. Students shared a reflection on the virtue of justice, one of the four cardinal virtues. Justice is giving others their due, being fair, and upholding rights. Students shared ways that they have experienced justice in their lives as well as ways that they could model justice while they are at school.

This week, the St. Mary's Girl Scout troop completed their First Aid Badge. They had a special visit from Juliet and Simone's mom Laura, who is a doctor. They learned when to call 911 as well as some first aid skills, such as how to handle sprains, bites, and stings. They also got to practice using bandages.

K1

K1 has been working on their friendship unit! Mrs. Curley and Mrs. Creamer's classes talked a lot about what makes a good friend and read some books about friendship. Students made friendship pictures where they collaborated on partner and group drawings. They had a Friends book to read at home and discuss with their families, and they also made a class book called A Recipe for Friendship to add to their classroom library!

Students in K2 unwrapped a new letter with Echo the Owl during their Fundations lesson in Ms. McAuliffe’s class! They unwrapped the letter r and practiced letter formation, verbally saying the sound rrr, and also identified the letter r in various sight words and their own names. Wonderful work, K2 students!

Grade 1

During writing this week, first graders practiced using glued sounds -am and-an to write a story about a boy named Sam, who ran away from jam. They analyzed how Sam persuaded his friends that jam was bad using adjectives and convincing language, and drew locket pictures to match what happened in their stories. It was a great interdisciplinary lesson, blending the current writing unit with new phonics knowledge!

Grades 2 and 3

This week, our second and third graders took a special trip to the New England Conservatory to attend Rusalka’s Little Mermaid, a children’s opera performed in the historic Jordan Hall. Students learned about what makes up an opera: from storytelling through music to all about different voice types to experiencing firsthand how singers use their voices to bring characters to life. The visit connected to what they have been exploring in music and drama class, deepening their understanding of how musicians work together to tell a story.

Grade 4

This week in Ms. Carr's grade 4 class, students created skits to show how they can say no to temptation and use their free will for good. Using their curriculum vocabulary words, groups created public service announcements. In reading, students have been studying the novel Because of Winn-Dixie. They are learning about figurative language and identifying it in the text, so they stepped into the hallway to take a look at the figurative language posters that students in grade 5 created to illustrate examples of different types of figurative language. Each student chose an example to remember and share with the class.

Middle School

This month in our Middle School Leadership Seminar, we officially introduced our Student Government Association (SGA), marking the beginning of an exciting leadership journey for our middle schoolers. We discussed what it truly means to hold office in SGA or to be an active member of the general assembly, emphasizing that leadership is not just about titles, that it’s about participation, collaboration, and community. Every student will be involved in meaningful ways throughout this process, whether by running for a position, supporting candidates, contributing ideas during town hall meetings, or working together to bring school-wide initiatives to life. We also spent time brainstorming our collective goals for the year, thinking deeply about how we can strengthen our school community, promote kindness, and create fun and engaging opportunities for all students: including community service! On Monday, candidates read their speeches in front of the general student body assembly. They’ve been campaigning! We’ll then engage in elections, giving students a chance to use their voices and practice respectful, effective communication. Once the SGA is established, we’ll hold monthly town hall meetings to ensure that every student’s perspective continues to be heard. Looking ahead, we’re excited to tie our leadership work to real-world experiences with planned field trips, including an option theatre night experience and an overnight stay at farm school in New Hampshire. Both opportunities are designed to foster teamwork, responsibility, and connection. We are looking forward to what else this autumn holds in store for us!

This week, Grade 6 finished up their study of the C.S. Lewis novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, part of the series The Chronicles of Narnia. Students have been learning chapter vocabulary, discussing key events in detail, and making thoughtful predictions about how the story will end. They've also been exploring the religious allegory in the novel — recognizing how Aslan represents sacrifice, hope, and goodness in the battle between him and the White Witch. As a culmination of the novel study, students watched the movie version of the story and got to try Turkish Delight, a symbolic treat in the story!

In math class with Mr. Pritchett, Grade 8 students formed a human number line to represent solving linear inequalities. They broke into two teams while each stood on a number between -2 and 2. One student worked on the board to solve the inequality and take over the spot of the person who was standing on their answer. The first team to solve each inequality won the round.
