Principal's Message Principal's Message

Reminder -- next week is a three-day week for students. There is no school for students Thursday, Oct. 2nd or Friday, Oct. 3rd.

Please follow all street signs at arrival and dismissal, especially on Dunbarton. Let's work together to keep our walkers and bikers safe.

Thank you ...

...to the PTA for arranging last Friday's Movie Night. It was wonderful seeing so many families attend!

... to families who are helping make sure healthy students are coming to school and on time.

... to families for all of the participation at last night's first Parent-Teacher Conference Night. You had thoughtful questions and shared in many of your student's celebrations. If you did not yet attend, we hope we will get to connect with you at the second Conference Night, Wednesday, October 1st. See your teacher's communication for your time slot.

... to families for the delicious food and drinks provided to staff for last night's Conference Night. Thank you in advance who have already signed up for October 1st!

This Week's Questions Around the Dinner Table:

  • What is one interaction you had with a classmate this week that you are proud of?
  • What is one thing you did in math this week that you are proud of? In ELA?

Have a great weekend.

Did you know... "Students with involved parents consistently earn higher grades and test scores across all subjects. Family engagement has positive effects on student achievement.”

— Henderson, A. T., & Mapp, K. L. (2002). A New Wave of Evidence: The Impact of School, Family, and Community Connections on Student Achievement. Southwest Educational Development Laboratory."

Parent-Teacher Conferences are 3:00-7:00, Thursday, September 25th and Wednesday, October 1st. Each classroom teacher has shared a sign-up. If you have not already, please sign up for a time to learn more about your child, ask questions, and connect more with your child's teacher. We can't wait to have you!

HAVE YOU..... HAVE YOU.....

Taken the pledge?...Take the Pledge!

If you have not done so already, this weekend would be a great opportunity to take the pledge as a family. Students AND parents can all take the pledge.

Together, we can help every child “stay in the game” by making attendance and arriving on time a priority.

Lions Locker - Another Resource for our GJPS Families Lions Locker - Another Resource for our GJPS Families

Lions Locker is an anonymous pantry located at Gahanna Lincoln High School. They provide food, toiletries, school supplies and other basic necessities to PreK-12 students of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.

If your family is in need of these basic items please reach out to Mrs. Cellar, School Counselor (cellarl@gjps.org) and she will work with Lions Locker as well as other local organizations to support your family through these need based programs.

School Absences School Absences

If your child is going to be absent from school, please email Ms. McFadden at mcfaddene@gjps.org AND email your student's teacher. Or, you may call to notify the school office attendance line at 614-478-5580 prior to 8:00 a.m.

As a result of House Bill 410, student attendance is calculated in hours. This includes absences that have been identified as both excused and unexcused by the school, as well as planned absences. Being late or tardy to school does calculate into the total hours absent.

Medical excuses from a doctor can be submitted to Emily McFadden, our school secretary, through email (mcfaddene@gjps.org) or sending in a paper copy.
