A rising travel trend is winter cruising in destinations typically popular from spring through fall. While river cruise lines have long offered Christmas Markets cruises in Europe’s colder months, more ocean cruise ships are now setting sail in the Mediterranean during winter.

Viking is increasing its fleet in the Mediterranean during the "Quiet Season," which spans from late October through mid-March. This shift is driven by expanding fleets seeking off-season itineraries and travelers looking for lower fares and experiencing destinations with fewer tourists and a more relaxed atmosphere.

For the 2025 season, Viking will have two 930-passenger ocean ships sailing the Mediterranean full-time in winter, with one more operating select itineraries. Looking ahead to the 2025-26 Quiet Season, Viking will expand its presence even further, deploying five ocean ships year-round in the Mediterranean, along with an additional ship offering select sailings.
