High school graduation rates hit record high, outpace state average
Osseo Area Schools’ four‑year graduation rate reached a record 85.4% in 2025, surpassing the state average for the second year in a row and reflecting continued gains across multiple student groups.
“This year’s numbers give us further data to affirm the work that all of our educators are doing on a daily basis across our district," said Superintendent Dr. Kim Hiel. "This data also serves as motivation to move the work further and to continue to drive our student success outcomes even higher.”

District advocates for Career and Technical Education at State Capitol
Dr. Tanya Drake, college and career readiness lead with Osseo Area Schools, recently joined leaders from across the state at the Capitol to connect with state senators and representatives.
During conversations with Representative Huldah Mamanyi-Hiltsley and Senator Warren Limmer, discussions focused on how modern CTE programs prepare students for what comes next after high school in areas such as business, health careers, automotive, engineering, education, and construction.
Osseo Area Schools is continuing to expand these opportunities with the launch of CTE Strands in fall 2026. These pathways are designed to give students hands-on, minds-on learning experiences connected to high-wage, high-demand, high-skilled careers. Future-focused pathways will include business, construction management and design, education, automotive, and health careers.
More information about our CTE programs and Strands can be found on the district's CTE page.
Upcoming LGBTQIA+ history and culture lesson information shared
An LGBTQIA+ History and Culture lesson will be provided to high schoolers the week of May 11, and to eighth graders and a select group of seventh graders the week of May 18.
Background: In June 2022, the School Board approved the LGBTQIA+ History and Culture Resolution. The lessons will be provided in May as in prior years. The resolution directed the district to incorporate curriculum that reflects the history and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Our schools continue to focus on maintaining safe and welcoming learning environments for all scholars. This lesson is designed to help students recognize the individuality and experiences of people within the wider community.
How it will work: Students will hear a 30-40-minute lesson in one of their advisory/foundation times the week of May 11 (high schoolers) or May 18 (middle schoolers). The skills, abilities and knowledge that scholars will attain include:
Students will gain a deeper understanding of LGBTQIA+ histories and identities.
Students will gain an understanding of the importance of using preferred pronouns and creating awareness of diverse identities.

Osseo orchestra invited to Orchestra Hall for festival performance
On March 31, the OSH musicians participated in sectionals with members of the Minnesota Orchestra. They rehearsed, enjoyed a dinner in downtown Minneapolis and then performed in a concert with some of the best eighth and ninth grade orchestras in the state.
"It felt like I was playing in a professional orchestra,” said violinist Maysa Phongsisattanak of the festival. “It was so fancy- the sound cubes, the size of the stage, the balcony seats. I felt so high class!"
"It was a very fun experience, and it felt like a once in a lifetime experience!" added cellist Emmanuella Messan.
