Thank you for attending Parent Conferences, and Winter Family Survey

Thank you so much, families, for attending parent-teacher conferences on December 1st and 2nd. Rest assured, for those of you who need to reschedule due to the weather delay on Friday morning, 12/2, we will be arranging make-up conference times. We so value informing you about your student's academic progress. We really appreciate all your feedback to help further improving Two Rivers - Dos Rios. If you would please take a few minutes to complete the Winter Family Survey embedded below in English and Spanish, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!

First Trimester Report Cards

Report cards for the first trimester will be coming home in student backpacks this week. I want to share some context with you so you read the information as it is intended.

  • Our report cards are aligned to the grade level standards for where we expect student levels to be at the end of the school year.

  • Logically, we wouldn’t expect a student to have reached end of year learning goals by the end of the first trimester. So if your student’s report card shows that s/he isn’t yet at grade level, this is normal. Over the year, we should be looking for growth toward that goal.

  • On top of all that, we are in our third straight abnormal year. Students have missed many typical learning opportunities, especially in the previous two school years. We are working hard to promote student growth (academic, social-emotional, learning habits, etc), but please consider that context when you look at the report cards this year and in the years to come.

Our overall message is to look for growth over time as we navigate the challenges of the pandemic. If you see some 1s on your child’s report card, take the above context into consideration and know we will get there as a team. You are clearly a critical part of the team. Here are some ways to support your child’s education:

  • Talk to your student regularly about what s/he is learning in school.

  • Stay informed through Seesaw messages from teachers, and check your child’s backpack regularly.

  • Charge their technology device every evening so they come to school with a device that is ready when they need it.

  • Ask your child’s teacher, “What can I do to support my child’s education?”

  • Read with your child every day for 20 minutes. Perhaps that can be part of the bedtime routine, as it is a calming, connecting activity that supports their reading growth.

  • Play tabletop games with your child, as they support social connections and interpersonal skills, language development, and basic math skills.

We are seeing amazing growth in our students, and we are confident in our Two Rivers - Dos Rios staff and in our systems of support. Thank you for working with us and trusting us.
