Dear Moreno Valley Unified School District Community,

November is Homeless Awareness Month, a time for us to come together as a community to recognize the challenges faced by individuals and families experiencing homelessness—and to reaffirm our shared commitment to supporting them with compassion, dignity, and respect.

At Moreno Valley Unified School District, we recognize that students facing housing instability often carry significant burdens that can impact their learning and overall well-being. Our district is committed to ensuring that every student has access to a safe and supportive learning environment, regardless of their circumstances. We provide essential resources, including school supplies, transportation assistance, clothing, and connections to local shelters and community partners.

We encourage our students, staff, and families to take part in this month of awareness by:

Showing empathy and understanding—small acts of kindness and inclusion can make a lasting difference.
Respecting privacy and confidentiality—if you become aware that a student or family is struggling, please approach the situation with sensitivity and connect them with school or district support staff.
Supporting local organizations—consider volunteering or donating to trusted community partners that assist families in need.

Homelessness does not define a person—it is a circumstance that can change with compassion, support, and opportunity. Together, as a district and a community, we can continue to uphold our commitment to equity and ensure that every student feels valued, supported, and seen.

Thank you for being part of a community that leads with heart and purpose.

Warm regards,

Dr. Alejandro Ruvalcaba
Superintendent of Schools
Moreno Valley Unified School District
