Week in Pictures
Principal's Update
2/24/2026
Good Morning Memorial Families,
I hope that you had a terrific weekend! We have a fun week ahead, beginning with Read Across America this morning. Later this week we will have a school presentation from the talented Sheryl Faye as she performs her one woman show on Abigail Adams for us. I look forward to sharing pictures from both of these events with all of you next week!
As you may know, after an extensive curriculum review, we have made the decision to adopt new English and Spanish Language Arts resources for next year. The resources are published by Amplify, called CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) and Caminos (for our Spanish Immersion classes). What makes this decision even more exciting is that for the first time in MURSD, we will have a coherent curricular resource for grades K-8. Last week, we began training our teachers on the research behind this resource, and excitement is building for the fall implementation. The curriculum is built on the latest research on reading development, and includes extensive explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics as well as in oral language development, language comprehension, and knowledge building. We are looking forward to helping our families to better understand the science of reading development over the next several months, starting with a Zoom event on March 17th. Please see the flyer below for more information.
I have updated the upcoming events into the month of June. More field trips and in school enrichment programs will be added as we confirm dates over the next month. Please also notice the updated school year calendar. Due to last week's snow days, our adjusted last day of school is now Wednesday, June 17th.
Have a great week!
Warmly,
Wendy

Help us Choose a New MURSD Mascot!
As you know, the Mendon-Upton Regional School District began the process of phasing out Native American imagery and the mascot starting in 2021. This aligned with the expressed wishes of the Nipmuc Nation as well as the social trends within the Commonwealth.
With all of the exciting changes that we are undertaking over the next twenty-four months, including creating a new athletic facility, we are excited to rebrand Nipmuc Regional High School and MURSD with a new mascot. With that in mind, we are interested in your input! Through March 9, we will be accepting nominations, suggestions, creative thoughts, and ideas for what you think the new mascot should be.
Please take a few moments to fill out this form with your thoughts on what the mascot should be, as well as why you think that’s the best name. We value everyone’s opinion during this exciting chapter of Nipmuc Regional and MURSD. Please be part of this exciting change!

Mattress Fundraiser
Miscoe PTO is excited to launch this new fundraiser to directly support our Good Neighbor programs, Cultural Arts events, and fulfill specific teacher requests for classroom supplies. Your 30-minute visit to our Kickoff on March 4th 6:30-7 at the Miscoe Auditorium doesn't just help us plan - it's a fundraiser on its own! By simply showing up (no further commitment required - we just ask you to spread the word for the sale), you help us secure an immediate $1,000 bonus (assuming 75-100 attendees) from the mattress company before we even sell a single bed. Your presence = literal cash!
Come enjoy a snack, some hot chocolate and raffles - including 2 Luxury Cooling Pillws ($300 retail value)
- Learn how your student (even non-Miscoe students) can earn cash for referrals ($50 1-5 and $75 6-10).
- Learn how your student can get some volunteering hours in for the actual Mattress Sale on April 4 10-4
- Identify potential buyers - statistically 1 in 10 people in our community will buy a mattress this year - they will already be spending the money so let's keep the money in our schools! We will also be selling accessories like luxurty sheets and pillows, bean bag chairs, adjustable bases, mattress protectors and body massagersRSVP to the facebook event for the sale
