ROCKLAND HIGH WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

UPDATES
Monday was the seniors' last day of school. They celebrated with an early morning tailgate and enjoyed putting that final "0" up in the cafeteria. It is a little quieter around school and we miss them already!
Math MCAS testing for sophomores went well. Students seemed to put their best effort into the test, their final MCAS ever. We have the Science test for freshmen coming up on June 4 and 6. See the attached schedule.
On Thursday, we hosted Senior Issues around the school with 4 stations:
- CPR Training
- Financial Literacy
- Guidance/Technology Wrap-up
- Safe Choices/Addiction
This was followed by the annual Senior Cookout, which became the Cookin due to the horrible weather. A small army of parents came together coordinated by Mrs. Asplund to grill burgers and hotdogs, serve food and dessert, set up games in the gym, and direct the kids. It was a great event and the seniors had a blast. Thank you to all of the parents who gave their time to make sure the students had a great day!

FROM THE NURSE
Memorial Day is here and it’s the unofficial start of summer. Spend time outside enjoying, but make sure to stay safe.
The American Skin Cancer Foundation estimates 80% of lifetime sun exposure occurs during childhood. Reduce your risk:
Limit outdoor time between 10am-4pm when the sun’s rays are strongest
Apply sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher 30 minutes before going into the sun and re-apply every 2-3 hours
Cover up with protective clothing, hats with brims, and sunglasses
Ticks and mosquitoes can spread vector-borne infections such as Lyme disease, babesiosis and anaplasmosis. Reduce your risk:
Wear long sleeves and pants
Use insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing when mosquitoes are active
Check your body for ticks after spending the day in wooded or tall grassy areas
If you find a tick, remove it with tweezers and disinfect the area
Consider reaching out to your medical provider for treatment if you are bitten by a tick. Find more information on tick borne illnesses here.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
