A Few Words From the Principal

Happy almost Thanksgiving Break!

In the season of gratitude, we want to provide our students with an opportunity to practice gratitude in their own lives. We will pass out an optional "Week of Gratitude" worksheet for students to complete during WIN on Monday. We will also have "I am grateful for you" cards for them to write a brief note to someone in their life if they would like.

We hope that you will be the recipients of some of this gratitude.

Gum! Yuck!

We are having some issues in the cafeteria with gum landing in places it should not be. We need your help to make sure our cafeteria and school stays clean and sanitary.

1.Gum needs to be discarded in the trash can.

2. Teachers will ask students to throw their gum away in their trash before they leave for lunch to avoid gum being placed on tables, trays, and other places besides the trash.

Thank you for your help.

Food Pantry Fundraiser

6th graders, start saving your dollars! During lunch on Wednesday, November 19, you may purchase duct tape for $1 per foot and stick it to Mr. Yancey, Pathways teacher in North hall, or Mr. Watts, Science teacher in South hall. The goal is to tape them head to toe to the wall in the cafeteria and leave them stuck. You can participate by bringing in your dollars. There is no limit to how many feet of tape you can buy, and all money collected will help stock the pantry at Cross-Lines Community Outreach in Kansas City, Kansas. Let's have some fun while raising funds for this important cause!

Attendance Reminders

As cold and flu season ramps up and our lives get busy, please remember to report absences and late arrivals to the school by 8:30 a.m. You may call the school attendance line at 913-422-5854 or use the online absence reporting form. The school will call to follow-up with unreported absences after 8:30. Students arriving tardy after 7:55 must enter through the front office doors (you are not required to escort late students inside, but if your student is late due to an appointment, please report it to the office in advance so their attendance is appropriately marked).

Students are allowed ten (10) days of excused absences per school year without an accompanying doctor’s note. (This includes illnesses, appointments, and “parent request” absences, which should be coordinated with the school in advance). Absences in excess of ten (10) without accompanying documentation will be considered unexcused. Missing a substantial portion of a day (three (3) or more class periods) shall be considered one "day."

You are not required to notify the office in advance if you will be checking a student out during the school day for an appointment. Please have your ID ready at the door, state your student's name and indicate you are checking them out, and complete the student check out inside and we will call your student from class at that time. Students will only be released to parent/guardians or emergency contacts listed in Skyward unless coordinated in advance with the school.
