A Letter from Mr. Savage
Congratulations to our Lady Mustangs on a successful volleyball season. The squad won the TVL Tournament and the 2A Sub-State and represented Valley Heights at the 2A State tournament in 2023! The team went 1-2 in pool play at Dodge City with a win against Hoxie and losses to Pitt-Colgan and Inman. Congratulations are in order for Delana Murk who was named to the KVA 2A State Tournament Volleyball Team. The Twin Valley League posted their All-League honors this week and three Lady Mustangs were named to either first team or second team. Delana Murk and Maggie Toerber were first team selections and Ava Smith was named to the second team! Congratulations to our 2023 squad and coaches!
Sportsmanship is an important component of any high school activity and was in full display at Valley Heights this past week. Valley Heights made a strong showing at the 2A State Tournament this past weekend and showed their school spirit throughout pool play on Friday! We would like to say thank you to our cheer sponsors, Katlen Schreiner and Ali Holmes for their guidance and to our cheer squad for leading the cheers during our matches. Thanks also to our entire Mustang fan base for cheering on each and every point. Another act of sportsmanship was evident after the football game against Whitewater-Remington on Friday night. As the teams were leaving the field after the game our Mustang fans were giving them high fives and words of encouragement as they walked up the sidewalk past the Lew Whitson bell. The fans were also doing the same for the players from Whitewater-Remington. Some of these young men had most likely played their last high school football game which makes for an emotional conclusion to the season. We are Proud to be Mustangs!
Just a reminder that our fall play is scheduled for November 10th, 11th and 12th! The students, Mrs. Coon and Mrs. Oatney have all been working hard in order to put on the best performance possible. The curtain will go up at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday night and at 2:00 pm for the Sunday matinee. We also want to pass on that a win against Sedgewick this Friday will make us change the play schedule to accommodate the next football game! We will then be looking at a 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm performance on Saturday, the 11th, and a 2:00 pm matinee on the 12th! To our cast and crew we say “break a leg”!
Our FACS club will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, November 7th. This event starts at 12:00 pm and runs until 6:00 pm. Appointments can be made online (which is preferred) but walk-ins are also welcome!
November 7th is Election Day for this area and we are happy to be able to host this event here in our commons! Parking for this event is available out front which makes for easy access to the voting area.
Student Council sponsored a Service Day on Wednesday, November 1st. Our 7-12 staff and students focused on projects that benefited our three schools. Landscaping and outdoor projects were the focus for the afternoon and we were able to get a lot accomplished with the great weather we had on that day. A big thank you to everyone who participated in this event. Job well done!
There are a lot of activities happening at Valley Heights in the coming weeks! Junior high basketball gets their season started with home games on the 9th and 13th. Our KAYS organization is hosting a Veterans Day program on the 10th and we invite all of our area veterans and their families to join us for this event. We have also scheduled a Professional Development Day on the 13th so there will be no classes on that day. And finally - don’t look now but Thanksgiving is a mere two weeks and some change away from being here. The school year is marching by quickly so check your school calendars and join us for the fun!
Have a great week!
Mr. Savage
