Dear ChurchillCSD Families & Staff,

As we welcome the month of March, we are reminded that spring is just around the corner and that our school year is moving quickly toward its conclusion on June 5th. It is hard to believe how much our students have grown and accomplished so far, and I am grateful for the partnership of our families in supporting their learning and development.

This week, our PK-5 students are celebrating Read Across America Week, honoring the joy and importance of reading. Inspired by the creativity of Dr. Seuss, our students will participate in fun dress-up days and activities that encourage imagination, curiosity, and a love of books. Reading is more than a skill. It is a way to explore new ideas, develop empathy, and make a positive impact in our communities. Every story read helps plant a seed of knowledge, creativity, and possibility in our children.

As we move through March, I encourage our families to take time to read with your children, talk about what they are discovering, and celebrate the ways they are growing academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students every day.

Thank you for all you do to support our schools and your children. Here is to a wonderful month ahead!

Warm regards,
Derild Parsons

Please note that school will be in session this Friday, March 06, and it is an early release day for students. Kindergarten and Pre-K students do not attend school on Fridays.

Early release times are:

Lahontan – 1:10 PM (1st ONLY – no Kindergarten)
E.C. Best – 12:50 PM
Numa – 1:00 PM
CCMS – 1:20 PM
CCHS – 1:20 PM

As a reminder, we are now following the modified 4-day week calendar, with every other Friday off, except for the final two weeks of school, when we will attend on May 29 and June 5 (last day of school). You can view the quick-glance calendar here: Quick Glance Calendar.

Read Across America Week is a nationwide celebration that promotes a love of reading and lifelong literacy skills for students of all ages! The week is traditionally celebrated around the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, whose imaginative stories have inspired generations of young readers. Throughout the week, we celebrate books, creativity, and the joy that reading brings to our school community.

NELC, LES, ECB, and Numa, will all celebrate by participating in dress-up days. They will be the same at all elementary schools to make it easier for families with students at multiple schools.

Dress-up days are as follows:

Mixed-Up Monday: Wear your clothes mixed up (shirt backwards, inside out, mismatched)
Top Hat Tuesday: Wear your favorite hat.
Wacky Wednesday: Wear your wackiest socks.
Theodore Thursday: Dress like your favorite Dr. Seuss character.
Funny Food Friday: Wear the color green.

We look forward to seeing all students' creativity as we celebrate the joy of reading together!

This is a reminder that Churchill County School District uses Peachjar to share school and community flyers digitally with families.

Instead of paper flyers being sent home in student backpacks, information from schools and approved community organizations is delivered directly to parent and guardian email inboxes and is always available on school websites.

Peachjar helps families stay informed about events, activities, and opportunities happening in our schools and throughout the community.

Log in to your Peachjar or create an account at any time to make sure you do not miss important updates and events!

Dear Churchill County School District Community,

As we step into March, we are proud to celebrate School Social Work Week (March 1–7). During this special week, we recognize the tireless efforts of our school social workers who are vital links between students, families and the resources they need.

Our school social workers make a difference by:

Providing emotional support and crisis intervention
Connecting students and families to essential community resources.
Advocating for student well-being within the educational system.

The work school social workers do often happens quietly, but its impact is deeply felt. By listening, guiding, and supporting students and families through complex situations, they help create school communities where students feel seen, supported, and able to thrive.

A Helping Hand from Care Solace

In our ongoing commitment to the well-being of our community, we are proud to partner with Care Solace. While our school social workers are the front lines of support, Care Solace extends that reach by acting as a 24/7 concierge service for mental health and substance use treatment. They work alongside our social workers to navigate the complexities of insurance and provider availability, ensuring our families are connected to the high-quality care they deserve, quickly and confidentially. Care Solace is a complimentary and confidential service provided by Churchill County School District.

If you or someone you know needs help with mental health or substance use challenges, Care Solace will help you navigate the process and find the best options. To access their services:

Call 888-515-0595. Multilingual support is available 24/7/365.
Visit caresolace.com/churchillcsd and either search on your own OR click "Book Appointment" for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.

Get Involved

We invite you to join us in saying "thank you" to our social work team this week. A phone call, email or high five go a long way in letting them know how much we appreciate what they do.

Thank you for helping us celebrate these essential members of our school family!

Influenza - What Families Need to Know

Below you will find important information regarding the rise in influenza (flu) cases in Churchill County. Please take a moment to review the symptom checklist and the recommended prevention steps with your child(ren).

Following these guidelines helps protect not only your child but also their classmates, teachers, and the entire school community. Staying informed and proactive is the best way to prevent the spread of illness this flu season.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools healthy and safe.

RESPIRATORY ILLNESS

With the beginning of a new school year, and the close contact we have with one another, brings respiratory illnesses; Influenza (Flu), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and COVID-19.

Symptoms of all three are very similar, which makes it hard to distinguish between these illnesses. Therefore, if you think your child may have one of these respiratory illnesses, please get them tested by a healthcare provider so we can prevent the spread in our schools and community.

⚠️ Many of our bus routes are currently full and operating with waitlists.

If your student needs transportation services, please email our team directly to submit your request:

👉 Email: stopfinder@churchillcsd.com

Families who submit a request will be notified if their student is placed on a waitlist. Do not send your student to the bus stop unless you have received confirmation of their bus assignment. Alternate transportation will be needed until a seat becomes available.

🚍 Transportation is available for all K–12 students in Churchill County.
📍 K–8 students living within city limits and more than ½ mile from school may access designated bus stop sites.
