A Note from Dr. Neubeck
Do you ever have those times where something happens and it makes you have some deep thoughts? I had one of those experiences on Tuesday night at the football playoff game. I took a picture of the players on the field and realized that it very well could be the last varsity game on the field. This spring we will have a track meet or two; but is could be the last game on the grass field. As I left the game with that thought, it made me wonder how many players and coaches played on that field since 1967 and how integral those fields were to the spirit of the Byron community. I also thought about all of the celebrations on that field with last minute goals in soccer and fumble recoveries to seal a win. Conversely, how many players left feeling disappointed after a tough loss or realizing their high school playing days were over.
Then I thought about the life lessons that have been learned on that field and the number of positive role models for young people we have had in our coaches. I am in awe thinking about the years of community support for athletes and coaches over the past 55 years on that field. It was a somber yet prideful feeling to think about the blood, sweat, tears, and joy that has been felt on that field.
But then I became very thankful and proud of what is yet to come. Thanks to the generosity of our community, and barring any unforeseen delays, our players and coaches will have a new place to make memories for the next 50 years starting next fall. It will be a great facility for our community to come together to support our students and show their Byron Pride. I am excited that all of the varsity level activities will be held on the high school campus and we will be able to host a great experience for all while being a source of pride for our community. I am looking forward to late August of 2023 so I can watch new memories being made, even if it might be losing a game in the last minute. Those games build character in our students and allows our community to support our players.

CHRISTMAS ANONYMOUS/ADOPT A FAMILY
We are so excited that we will once again be running our Byron School Christmas Anonymous Program. The holidays can be a financial struggle for many families so in the spirit of the sharing season we facilitate families adopting other families to help provide them with gifts for their children at the holidays. The entire operation is kept anonymous and at year number 12, we have the program pretty streamlined and efficient.
If you have financial need and would like to have your family adopted this holiday season, please contact christine.jostock@byron.k12.mn.us. We will send you a needs/wants list in mid-October for you to fill out and return.
If you or a group of people would like to Adopt a family this holiday season, please send Christine Jostock an email at the above address. We will assign you a family by number along with a shopping list of items to choose from.
We appreciate being in a community that takes care of each other. Proud to be a Bear!
