December – Responsibility
December’s focus is Responsibility — being dependable and taking ownership of our actions. At home, children can practice by helping with chores or remembering routines. Ask your child: “What is one responsibility you can take on this week?”
At the end of the month, one student from each classroom will be recognized at our school assembly for showing responsibility.

K-2 Reading Difficulties Screener
On Wednesday, December 3, all Kindergarten–2nd grade TUSD families received an email introducing a new state-mandated Reading Difficulties Risk Screener that supports our commitment to strong early literacy. After Winter Break, all K–2 students will take this short assessment, which helps teachers spot early reading needs so we can personalize instruction and provide additional support as needed. Families who wish to opt out must submit the electronic form included in the letter or provide a written request by December 19. You can find more detailed information in the full letter here.

Memo Regarding Secure Firearm Storage
The safety of our students and families is always our top priority. As we approach mid-year, in accordance with the law, we want to remind all parents and guardians of the importance of securely storing firearms to prevent access by children or unauthorized individuals.
California law holds gun owners responsible if a child gains access to an improperly stored firearm and causes harm, brings it to school, or brandishes it. The safest way to comply is to keep firearms unloaded, locked, and stored separately from ammunition.
Please take a moment to review the full Safe Firearm Storage Notice from our Student Services Department, which outlines California’s laws and safety recommendations for families.
Thank you for partnering with us to help keep our students and community safe.
