Congratulations is in order!
Corbett Middle School was well represented at the annual Oregon Music Educators Association conference in Eugene, OR. This event is held each year over the long MLK Jr. weekend.
Over 500 musicians auditioned to become members of the Middle School All-State Honor Band. Vincent Nedwicke, clarinetist and 8th grader at Corbett Middle School was selected. Statistically speaking this is the most difficult honor ensemble to get into. Vincent was able to work with nationally renowned conductor, Robert Herrings (Texas) for approximately 13 hours of rehearsal over the course of 2 days. The band gave a fun and motivating performance on Friday night (January 16th, 2026) at Willamette High School.
We also have a state champion composer in our midst. David Enos, French horn player and 8th grader at CMS, earned top honors for his composition "The Battle of Asgard: Clash of Gods". Along with his composition, David wrote a short essay about his inspiration and composition process. He was awarded his State Champion trophy at a banquet at The Graduate Hotel on Saturday night (January 17th, 2026).
Please support Corbett music so we can continue to have success and celebrate excellence in our community.

HS Bowling co-op with Estacada
Corbett Boys were able to finish 1st at Districts after a very grueling 32 games. Estacada Girls were able to finish 2nd. We will be going to state finals: Feb. 27th , Feb 28th, and March 1st at Park Lanes in Hillsboro Oregon. Nationals is June 20th to the 22nd in Columbus Ohio. That would be an amazing opportunity if we qualify. Corbett bowlers include Claire Turner, Aiden Moore and Cheyannah Palmer-Ortner.
Personal achievements include Claire Turner made the All-Star team. Aiden has been a force to be reckoned with this season. Currently, he is looking into bowling colleges that have engineering. Due to Aiden's drive and talent, I see him going far with his goal of being an engineer and hopefully getting to pay for that degree in part due to bowling. Cheyannah Palmer-Ortner competed in every practice tournament this season, eight in total. She has been bowling since she could lift a 6 pound ball. The future is bright for these 3 bowlers. In every tournament the girls placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
The kids are talented and amazing bowlers. Bowling can offer scholarships to over 250 universities in the US. I would love to have more Corbett students come out for the team. Thank you for believing in my program.

College Corner - Scholarship Opportunity
Marcia H. Randall Scholarship Fund
The fund is designated specifically to support graduates of Corbett High School (or the equivalent – GED recipients or home-schooled, if residents of Corbett) for use in pursuit of postsecondary education at public or private nonprofit colleges (including community colleges) or universities in the United States. We are grateful that the donor (Marcia Randall) has such a strong connection to Corbett and ongoing commitment to supporting students in the Corbett HS community.
Many Corbett HS graduating seniors will once again be eligible for the scholarship this year. While there is a preference for arts/music interest, it’s not a requirement and all eligible Corbett HS students are encouraged to apply.
The attached flyer has all of the information about the Marcia H. Randall Scholarship Fund.

Nominations Open for the 2026-27 Oregon Teacher of the Year
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE), in partnership with Oregon Lottery, is pleased to announce the Oregon Teacher of the Year program is once again honoring exemplary educators in every region of the state!
Nominations are open statewide through 5:00 p.m. on February 11, 2026.
The Oregon Teacher of the Year program recognizes and honors teacher excellence, with the state Teacher of the Year serving as the face and voice of exemplary educators across the state. Candidates for Oregon Teacher of the Year are exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled licensed public school educators in grades preK-12.
Do you know a teacher who should be considered for this distinction? Nominate them now!
What happens after nominations close in February?
All eligible teachers* who have been nominated will be invited to submit an application. Candidates who apply will then be in the running to be selected as a Regional Teacher of the Year in one of the 19 Education Service Districts statewide. Every Regional Teacher of the Year will be awarded $1,000 and will be celebrated across the state in September.
Finalists for the 2026-27 Oregon Teacher of the Year will be selected from amongst the regional winners by a blue ribbon panel. Following additional application questions and interviews, the panel will then select the state honoree. Thanks to ODE’s partnership with the Oregon Lottery, the Oregon Teacher of the Year receives an award of $10,000, as well as a special fund to cover all travel costs for the year.
"My experience thus far as Oregon Teacher of the Year has been nothing short of humbling, exhilarating, heartwarming, and amazing, and my time has only just begun,” said Sally Golden, Oregon’s 2025-26 Teacher of the Year. “This honor is for every student, parent, educational assistant, specialist, support staff, teacher, administrator, and community partner who has contributed and taken part in the beauty and magic that is the Springfield Community Transition Program. I am beyond excited to represent my program, my district, and my state and hope to make everyone proud!"
The Oregon Teacher of the Year will also submit an application to be considered for the honor of National Teacher of the Year.
If you have questions about the program, please reach out to the Oregon Teacher of the Year Program Coordinator Michelle Goodness.
*Prior to nominating, we encourage you to review the Oregon Teacher of the Year eligibility requirements - please see the “About” section on the Oregon Teacher of the Year website.
From the Health Room
A big “Thank you” to the many parents/guardians who have turned in the immunization certificates and exemption waivers to the Health Room. This has been very helpful in getting the school immunization records accurate.
MESD will be sending out school exemption letters soon for students needing immunizations or exemption waivers. The Health Room can assist you finding a health care provider or locating the exemption waivers.
Multnomah County has Student Based Health Centers (SBHC) located at Reynolds HS (503) 988-3340, Centennial HS (503) 988-5488, and David Douglas HS (503) 988-3554. These three centers are the closest to the Corbett School District.
“SBHCs are medical clinics that offer a full range of physical, behavioral and preventive health services. SBHCs offer services to all students in a convenient and youth-centered environment, regardless of ability to pay. SBHCs provide easy access to health care. SBHCs reduce barriers such as cost, transportation and concerns about confidentiality that keep parents and students from seeking the health services students need.” Oregon School-based health centers.
