DKHS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
"Do A Job"
OCTOBER 10, 2025
This week flew by here at DKHS. We had lots of activity and hosted multiple athletic events. Our student body has been showing up, and this week was no different. An Adam Sandler Theme for the Thursday volleyball showdown with Hackett Catholic Prep was quite the scene. Our student section continues to shine with energy and enthusiasm. Students should come to events and join the fun.
We hosted the SAC League Championship for Cross Country at Gilmore on Thursday, and our runners competed very well. The boys moved up in the standings with a 4th-place finish out of 18 teams, and the girls held strong to their seeded spot at 14th. Nick Muday and Landon Madden were both first-team All-Conference Medalists. Football closes out the home portion of their season with our last home game tonight against Galesburg August with a 7 PM kickoff. It will also be senior night, so come out and support our guys and their families at 6:30.
We are so excited to announce that Aubrey Yarger at the annual Delton Kellogg Hastings Cancer Swim/Dive meet broke her own 6 dive pool record, scoring 295.15, and crushed the 11 dive pool record, which had stood previously for 9 years. Her 11 dive score was 524.20. Congratulations to our defending State Champion, Aubrey Yarger, who seems to be taking things in diving to new levels. On Thursday, our varsity volleyball team continued its winning ways. They are now 21-1 in their last 7 matches, losing just one set before winning the match last night against Hackett. In the deciding set, the girls were down 23-13 and came back to score the last 12 points to win 25-23. I’m proud of how all our kids are competing and representing us well with their character.
On Monday, we host the Amatrol people and some local business and industry leaders for an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony of our new IGNITE Lab. Word is we will have some state legislators on campus. Watch for a media blast coming from that event around the opportunities for our students to gain industry certifications and hands-on manufacturing training.
We sent 12 FFA members to the Fall Conference overnight in Lansing this week. Our kids attended multiple breakout sessions and workshops around the topics of leadership, service, job training, careers, finding and using your voice for change, as well as a career fair focused on agriculture, food, and natural resources. They also began preparations for their State Convention competitions in public speaking, interviewing, livestock evaluations, communications, food science, mechanics, and many others. Ms. Hebenstreit continues to impress me with the work she is doing in our Ag Science program, and the various experiences our students are getting here at DKHS.
Once again, I wanted to remind you about the end of the marking period and the upcoming parent-teacher conferences. It's important to remember that the first marking period, which ends on October 24th, makes up 40% of the semester grade. Students should be working hard to get work turned in, finishing assignments, doing correctives when able, and setting themselves up for success. Please note that parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for October 14th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM and October 21st from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, as well as 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Both of those days are half days for students. We hope to see you here.
On Friday, we hosted John Beede for our MS and HS kids. John gave a powerful speech on the topics of goal setting, hard work, success strategies, and changing a culture. John is a rock climber who has been struck by lightning, attacked by a five-foot iguana, caught in a negative 40-degree blizzard, and once did the hokey pokey in the eye of a hurricane. John is a man who has not only climbed to the summit of Mount Everest, but someone who has also reached the top of the tallest mountain on every continent... including Antarctica. In fact, more people have orbited in space than have reached the top of the 7 summits. His climbs and adventures have been featured on 60 Minutes, The Weather Channel, and media across the globe.

VETERAN'S TRIBUTE
PLEASE FILL OUT THESE FORMS
Now that the state budget is settled, we will use a more simplified form to collect information. These are important forms as they help with funding for sports fees, grants, and many other things.
ALLIED HEALTH CLASS
Here, Allied Health students are looking forward to gaining hands on experience for patient care.
So far this year students have learned about health care systems, ethics in health care, health care roles, and real world applications.
Coming up next students will be certified in CPR and First Aid and learn hands on skills for safety.
FFA
Yesterday, state officers visited Ms. Hebenstreit’s classes, generously donating their time to educate students about the purposes of FFA and engaging them in enjoyable activities. We extend our sincere gratitude to Anderson and Carly for their participation.
