PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 8th from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and 5:00-8:00 p.m., and Friday, October 9th from 12:30-3:30pm. For this round of conferences, we will again be utilizing sign-up procedures like those we used in the past and those used at other schools in OneTROY. Parents will sign up for individual sessions with teachers.

Here are the details:

· Due to the limited availability of appointment slots, please do not feel obligated to sign up for a conference if you do not feel it is necessary.

· Parents will meet with teachers in person for all 3 sessions.

· Parents will sign up for conferences with individual teachers using the SchoolSoft Conference Manager. No walk-ins will be available. Please visit https://troyhs.schoolsoft.com/. If it’s your first time visiting the site, click “REGISTER NOW.” Once you create an account, you will be able to select the teachers with whom you’d like to meet. Other schools in the district use the same software, so if you used the software at another school, you won’t need to register again. You may simply log in and select your teachers. If you have issues accessing your account email Mrs. Sharp: LSharp@troy.k12.mi.us

· Sign up starts on Monday, September 21st at 8:00 a.m. and goes through Thursday, October 8th at 9:00 a.m.

· If you are unable to schedule an appointment for conferences, please know that teachers are available to communicate via Schoology or email about your student’s progress in class.

Other noteworthy information:

· Conferences are five minutes each to allow for teachers to see as many parents as possible.

· Please be courteous and conscientious of this when meeting with teachers because the timing of your conference will impact future appointments.

· Please allow at least five minutes between teachers so that you have time to get to your next teacher.

· Please have your conference schedule and/or take a picture of it with your phone so you have that information when you are working through conferences with Troy High teachers.

· Counselors and social workers will also be available for appointments for the conference session.

Attention 11th Grade Families: Two Important PSAT/NMSQT Dates

All Troy High 11th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT this fall. Please mark these two important dates on your calendar:

Wednesday, October 7 — Student Readiness Check (SRC)
5th Hour | THS Auditorium

The Student Readiness Check is an important preparation session that helps students get ready for test day. During the SRC, students will make sure the Bluebook testing app is properly set up on their TSD iPad and complete other important pre-test steps.

Students will also receive their PSAT/NMSQT Sign-In Ticket, which they can use to access an optional full-length practice test in Bluebook before test day.

Students must bring their fully charged TSD iPad to school on October 7.

Thursday, October 15 — PSAT/NMSQT
1st–3rd Hours | Main Gym, AUX Gym, and accommodated testing rooms

All 11th graders will be excused from their 1st–3rd hour classes to take the PSAT/NMSQT. After testing, students will attend their regularly scheduled lunch and 4th–6th hour classes.

Why is the PSAT/NMSQT important?

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) gives students valuable practice for the SAT and provides feedback about their college readiness. For eligible 11th graders, it also serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which can lead to national recognition and scholarship opportunities.

We appreciate families helping students arrive prepared with a fully charged TSD iPad on both dates!

POLICIES & PROCEDURES POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Troy School District: DRESS CODE

The Troy School District expects that all students will dress in a way that is appropriate for the school day or for any school-sponsored event. Student dress choices should respect the District’s intent to sustain a community that is inclusive of a diverse range of identities. The primary responsibility for a student’s attire resides with the student and their parent(s) or guardian(s). The school district is responsible for seeing that student attire does not interfere with the health or safety of any student.

1. Basic Principle/Students Must Wear:

  • A Shirt (with opaque fabric – not see-through material - in the front, back, and on the sides under the arms, as well as some form of shoulder strap) AND
  • Bottoms (made of opaque material) including pants/jeans or the equivalent (i.e., skirt, sweatpants, leggings, dress, shorts) AND
  • Shoes

*Courses that include attire as part of the curriculum (for example, professionalism, public speaking, and job readiness) may include assignment-specific dress but should not focus on covering bodies in a particular way or promoting culturally specific attire. Activity-specific or course-specific shoe requirements are permitted (i.e., athletic shoes for physical education or recess, closed-toe shoes for science, labs, industrial arts, etc.).

2. Students May Not Wear:

  • Violent language or images
  • Images or language depicting/suggesting drugs, alcohol, vaping or paraphernalia (or any illegal item or activity)
  • Body armor, tactical gear, or facsimile
  • Hate speech, profanity, pornography
  • Any clothing that reveals visible undergarments (visible waistbands and visible straps are allowed)
  • Swimsuits (except as required in class or athletic practice)
  • Accessories that could be considered dangerous or could be used as a weapon (i.e., Handcuffs or other metal accessories that might be dangerous)

  • Any item that obscures the face (except as a religious observance or as personal protective equipment [PPE, such as medical face masks]); hats, hooded sweatshirts, and other head coverings are permitted but must allow the student’s face to be visible to staff and not interfere with the line of sight of any student or staff

Student ID Cards

Students are required to carry their picture ID cards during school and at all student activities. The ID cards are distributed at the August orientations. The ID card will be used for identification, to charge student extra lunch, and as a hall pass and library card.

Student Code of Conduct

The Rights & Responsibilities/Code of Student Conduct may be found on the district's website at www.troy.k12.mi.us. It is suggested that both parents and students review this document before the start of the school year. If you do not have access to the internet, please stop by the Troy High Main Office.

CELL PHONE POLICY

New Cell Phone Policy:

Student Personal Technology Guidelines – High School

We understand that many students travel to school with personal technology devices such as cell phones, AirPods, and smartwatches. These items are allowed in the building; however, their use during the school day is limited to support a focused and respectful learning environment.

In classrooms, students are expected to use only district-issued iPads, as directed by their teachers. The use of personal devices during instructional time is not allowed.

Please note: The school district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal technology. For any urgent communication during the school day, families should contact the main office. Students are always welcome to use the office phone if needed.

To reduce distractions and promote a positive learning environment, we are committed to the following expectations:

High School Personal Technology Guidelines

  • During Instructional Time:
    • Cell phones and personal devices must be silenced (with all notifications disabled) and stored in lockers or backpacks.
    • Personal technology may not be used in classrooms during instruction.
    • Devices may not be used during bathroom or hallway visits.
  • During Non-Instructional Time:
    • Personal devices may be used only during passing periods and lunch.
    • All communication during class must go through the main office, unless specifically approved by a TSD staff member.
  • Smartwatches:
    • Smartwatches must have all notifications and communication features turned off and should be set to Schooltime mode during class.
    • They may be used only as a timepiece.
    • Recording features are strictly prohibited in accordance with TSD Board Policy 2006.
    • Misuse of smartwatches will result in confiscation.

Consequences for Misuse of Personal Technology

  1. 1st Offense: Teacher holds the device for the remainder of the class period.
  2. 2nd Offense: Device is sent to the main office; student may pick it up at the end of the day.
  3. 3rd Offense: Device is sent to the main office; a parent/guardian must pick it up.
  4. Further Offenses: Continued violations will result in parent pickup and additional disciplinary actions as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.

Thank you for supporting a distraction-free and respectful school environment. If you have any questions, please contact the school administration.

IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS

Morning Drop-Off Procedures

Please review these important safety procedures regarding drop-off procedures. Please drop-off your student(s) only at the designated drop-off areas. Please do not drop-off your student in a street. Our students’ safety is most important!

Parents use two drop-off loops heading into THS. Here are the specific procedures:

Drop-off #1 (North) Southbound Northfield Parkway traffic will turn right into the main school entrance and drop students off at the main office circle loop. Traffic exiting THS must turn left onto Northfield Parkway and go back toward Long Lake. We are expecting all southbound drop-offs to use this loop exclusively.

Drop-off #2 (South) Northbound Northfield Parkway traffic will turn left into the drop-off loop and drop students off at the south first-floor entry doors. Traffic exiting THS must turn right onto Northfield Parkway and go back toward Wattles. We are expecting all northbound drop-offs to use this loop exclusively.

Parents should NOT use the Long Lake entrance to THS as that entrance is to be used exclusively by student drivers parking in the student lots.

Please consult the site map below with directions and summary of instructions. Thanks for your assistance with the transportation plan on the THS campus.
