about the Springdale High School Library!

Top Ten Things YouNeed to Know about the Springdale High School Library!

#1: Keep Calm, the Library is OPEN!

The SHS Library is OPEN this year! Our hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and we are located across from the cafeteria. Students can come in before school, during lunch, and after school to check out books or charge their Chromebooks. Space is limited during the school day due to COVID and social distancing guidelines, so please call the library before sending students during class time. Staff members are welcome anytime!

#2: Library Orientation and Book Check Out is taking place NOW!

If you would like to bring your whole class in for library orientation or book check out, call or email to get on the calendar. Space is limited due to COVID, so we will only schedule one class a day and we are fully booked through the end of September. Multiple classes have signed up to come back on a three week rotation to get new books!

#3: We have thousands of BOOKS available to check out!

We have over 20,000 books in the SHS Library, including titles in Spanish and Marshallese. Students can check out up to five books at a time and keep them for three weeks. We even deliver! If you are too busy to stop by the library, you can visit the Books page on our website, browse the library catalog, then fill out a book request form. We will pull the reqeusted books and deliver them to your classroom. This works for both students and staff!

#4: School Library Website

Our library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with our library website in which students can access our databases, links to resources, reading suggestions, and more! We even offer digital access to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette through the Newspapers in Education program. Click on the NIE logo, then login with username springdale, password bulldogs. Pin the tab for easier access. Take a few minutes to familarize yourself with the website so that you can quickly access what you need in the future.

#5: We have a digital collection of ebooks and audiobooks!

Did you know that we have a FREE collection of ebooks and audiobooks, curated specifically for our school? Download the Sora app, select Springdale Public Schools, sign in using Springdale Public Schools, then sign in with Google and enter your school email and password. Click on explore and scroll down to see our collections. If you find a book that sounds interesting, click on the book, then click on borrow. If the book is out, you can get on the waiting list. You can also access thousands of ebooks and audiobooks from the Springdale Public Library on the Sora app. On the explore tab, click on the drop down arrow and choose ArkansasLibrary2Go. When you check out a book for the first time from the Library2Go collection, you will need to select Springdale Public Schools again. Stop by the library or give us a call if you need assistance.

#6: Student Printing Request

Students that need documents printed for class can visit the library website, click on the Printing Request tab, and upload their document to the Google form.

Requirements:

  • School related documents only
  • Black and white printing is free
  • Color printing is $1.00 per page
  • Ten pages or less
Students will receive an email when their document is ready to pick up in the library.

Please allow 24 hours from the time of the request for the project to be printed. If we have a class in the library checking out books, we won't be able to check the form and print the documents until we get a break between classes.

#7: Teacher Resources

Did you know that we have professional development books and miscellaneous tech equipment in the library for teachers to check out? We currently have the following:

  • A large collection of Education Professional Development books
  • A large collection of DVDs for classroom use
  • A few DVD players
  • A few HD to VGA Adapters
  • A few document cameras
  • A few projectors
  • A few TVs with DVD players on a cart

We also have a staff lending library, or what we call our "Back Room Books" with titles geared toward staff instead of students. Some of our favorites in this collection include The President is Missing and The President's Daughter by Bill Clinton and James Patterson, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate, and Educated by Tara Westover. We take donations, so if you have a book you've read and don't want to keep, drop it off and we'll add it to the staff collection.

#9: Services

Lamination: Gather the items you need laminated, attach a note with your email address, and drop them off or send them to the library with a student. The laminator takes about 30 minutes to warm up, and we only laminate once or twice a day, so the turn around time could take up to 24 hours.

Notary: Mrs. Peters is a notary and will notarize documents at no charge. Please call 493304 or email cpeters@sdale.org to schedule an appointment. In accordance with Arkansas state law, please be aware of the following guidelines for notary service:
  • All signers of a notarized document must provide an official photo ID (driver's license, passport, student identification, consular identification, etc.)
  • Documents must be unsigned prior to notarization. Notaries must witness the act of signing and cannot accept a previously signed document.

Poster Board: We sell poster boards in the library in a variety of colors for fifty cents each. Students can stop by anytime to make a purchase.
