A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear PES community,

As we end the 2024-2025 school year, I want to say a special thank you for welcoming me into your community. It has truly been a dream to take over the helm at Phippsburg School. The staff, community and students are among the best I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with. This year was just the beginning of many great educational opportunities to come. Community is what makes schools great, and schools are what make communities strong. Thank you Phippsburg!

Farewells! 💫

Sadly, the end of the year also brings about farewells to staff who are moving on next year. After ten years of running the Explorer’s Cafe, Miss Anna will be retiring…but don’t worry, she is pursuing many other avenues, which will have her continuing to give back to her community in the unique ways she knows how. Leaving her side are Ms. Nichole and Ms. Faye, who have worked hard over the years to feed the children of Phippsburg School. After six years at Phippsburg, our beloved kindergarten teacher, Mrs.Tardif, is also leaving us. Our students have many fond memories of her generous, dedicated and genuine care and love for students and education. She will be greatly missed. Mrs.Henderson, our third grade teacher will also be leaving us next year. A master at finding the right way each student learns and building a community of classroom learners, we are going to miss her humor and dedication to our students at Phippsburg. Finally, after one amazing year, our intervention teacher Ms. O’Donnell is leaving us to return to school next year and study speech and language therapy. Under her care this year, our students in intervention have grown tremendously. All of these individuals have built strong relationships with students, our staff, and our community; we wish them all the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.

Field Day REMINDERS! 🥅

We are hoping for good weather on Tuesday, June 17th as we travel to Head Beach. Stations for field day will be on the beach. Please dress in comfortable clothes and wear shoes that can withstand some sand, and possibly water. Students will have the option for a bag lunch from the kitchen. If they are not taking a bag lunch, students should bring a lunch box. All students need to bring a WATER BOTTLE. Please notify Tammy by 9AM about the pick up/bus plans for your students after field day. We will not be able to accommodate last minute changes.

To our 5th graders moving on to BMS next year. Best of luck; I hope you all continue to shine bright and dream big! To my returning students at Phippsburg, I will miss you over the summer months. Please come and visit me at the Totman Library on June 24th and July 15th, as I will be the guest reader on two occasions. Have fun and keep reading, writing, and doing arithmetic. See you all soon. 🏖️

Warm regards,

Nina Willette, Principal 😎

REMINDERS

  • Tuesday, June 17th is the last day of school for students in K-5. It will be a half day, with dismissal at noonish-if there are any changes to the usual routine, please notify Mrs. Doran at 389-1514 or tdoran@rsu1.org by 9AM. K-5 students will be dismissed from Head Beach parking lot (bus and parent pickups). Buses may arrive there a few minutes later than they would PES. Miss Robin's bus #37 will reverse her route; starting at Small Point, then Main Rd to Sebasco Rd. Ridley's Landing, Blacks Landing, Ridge Rd and West Point. Back on Main Rd to Sam Day Hill/Riff Raff. Main Road (#1200) to Tanny Way. Bus#29 will take Parker Head students with Tugboat Ln being the 1st stop, 2nd stop Francis Wyman Ln, and 3rd stop 109 Parker Head, so they will be arriving much earlier, before proceeding to Cranberry Pt, Stoney Brook Rd, etc. Some stops may be 30 min. later than the usual half day drop off times. Parents should follow the Bus Right app (Busright.com) to see approximately where the bus is. Mrs. Doran will be staying in the office that day until 12:45ish for radio communication.

  • This newsletter will be the final one for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • A HUGE THANK YOU to all the great volunteers who helped this year, and most recently, our tie-dye helpers: Lauren Spencer, Rebecca Trask, & Michelle Whitman, and to all our wonderful and faithful garden volunteers, too: Erika Cramer, Karen Balnis, Merry Chapin, (Anne Marie Bartoo, Jen Blood, & Kimberly Marsho in the Ed Secskas Teaching and Learning Garden), Patricia Boutilier, Teresa Oelmann, Elisabeth Paine, and Ellen Winchester. We couldn't maintain the wonderful gardens without them! 😃

  • The first day of school for K-5 is September 2nd, and Pre-K will start September 8th.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS

The PES office will be open from 7:30AM-4PM June 18-25 (closed on June 19 for the holiday), then only open on Wednesdays until August 19. Please call or email ahead to be sure Mrs. Doran will be there for a visit. If those hours are inconvenient, paper work may be mailed to PES, 1047 Main Rd, Phippsburg, ME 04562 or scanned and emailed to tdoran@rsu1.org.

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE

Just a reminder that all remaining student medications (prescription, over the counter, inhalers, etc.) must be picked up on the last day of school (June 17th). (Mrs. Doran will be at the school while students are at field Day at Hermit Island, so parents can pick up medications at school, on their way to the beach.) Anything left after the last day will be disposed of.
