Dear Legacy Elementary Families,

We have officially wrapped up our second week of school! Our students are settling into their routines, building wonderful connections with their teachers, and filling our classrooms with curiosity and joy. It has been a true delight watching our school community.

A special highlight of this week was launching our very first Legacy Lab of the Week recognition! Each week, we celebrate two outstanding students from every grade level who consistently exemplify our BARK rules and bring their very best effort to school each and every day. Their pictures hang in a place of honor each week. Seeing these shining leaders take pride in showing respect, responsibility, and hard work sets a fantastic example for all of us.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership, encouragement, and support from home. Together, we are setting the stage for a truly extraordinary school year.

Warmly,

Mrs. O'Hara

Principal, Legacy Elementary School

Please remember to report any absences, tardies, or early dismissals through ParentVUE. Emails to teachers may not always reach the Front Office, where attendance is officially recorded.

In ParentVUE, click Report Absence next to your child’s name. You can also report tardies and dismissal changes there.

If we don’t receive any notification, the absence will be recorded as Unexcused.

We are so excited to partner with you to make our afternoon dismissal smooth, safe, and positive for all of our students! Here are a few friendly reminders to help everything run like clockwork:

Building Independence with Car Seats: We love seeing our young learners grow in their independence! If your child uses a car seat or booster, practicing having them buckle themselves in at home is a fantastic way to build their self-reliance and confidence. For safety, staff members cannot reach into vehicles or between a child’s legs to buckle seats. If your child is still mastering this skill, you are welcome to change their dismissal status to "walker" so you can park and meet them in front of the building while they practice.

Car Line Signs: To help our team identify your vehicle quickly and safely, please hold up a paper sign with your child's name written in bold, dark ink. Need an extra sign? Stop by the front office—we’d be happy to provide one!

Safe Walking & Parking Protocols: To keep our pedestrian students safe and ensure traffic flows smoothly onto Minerva Drive, please refrain from parking near the car line exit. If you are meeting a walker, please use the crosswalk at the bottom of the street or meet farther up toward Frontier Drive.

Thank you so much for your continued partnership and support in keeping our dismissal process safe, seamless, and efficient for every student!

Parents/Guardians/Staff

We know our community wants to have a say in how LCPS allocates its budget to best support student learning and achievement. We are asking our community for your thoughts on what the School Board might consider as they develop the FY28 budget. Our teachers, counselors, principals, school nutrition workers, and bus drivers work to support students throughout the year and are part of the budget that funds school programs and classroom instruction from early childhood through graduation. Our budget also supports facilities and maintenance, staff benefits, technology, and overall operations that make our division thrive.

We need our staff and community’s input to learn what is most important to everyone and help inform our next steps. To do that, we are asking everyone to participate in a ThoughtExchange to share their ideas and let us know how they feel about other ideas the community suggests. We are using ThoughtExchange so everyone has a chance to share their perspectives and understand what’s most important to the group.

Beginning August 24, you can participate in the ThoughtExchange and return anytime before September 15 to rate new ideas. You can also find it on www.lcps.org/thoughtexchange.

Your input is valued and appreciated.

Volunteer/Mentor Form Volunteer/Mentor Form

Loudoun County Public Schools requires that every person who volunteers in the classroom, helps with events, goes on field trips or works one-on-one with a student have a completed Volunteer-Mentor Application on file. These forms must be completed every year, so if you filled it out last year, those have been shredded and you will need to submit a new one. They can be turned in to the front office in person or by emailing them to LEG-FrontOffice@lcps.org.

MSAAC is engaged this year in an Every School at the Table campaign. You are encouraged to identify an engaged parent or caregiver to serve as your school’s MSAAC delegate and to build an ongoing relationship with that delegate throughout the year. Please work to have at least one representative for your school and designate one student leader to serve as the student delegate.

Please include the flyer below in your newsletter as a recruitment tool. Your participation and encouragement will be critical to ensure schools that have historically had vacancies or inconsistent representation have representation this year.
