AMS Summer Learning 2025
Math & Reading
Dear AMS Families
We hope your summer is off to a great start. While you ease into your summer routine, we encourage you to support your child in preparing for the upcoming school year. Setting aside half an hour to an hour a day can help students close learning gaps and perform at higher levels. Summer is a great time for students to sharpen their academic skills while still having plenty of time for those beloved summer activities! AMS teachers have provided resources in math and reading for all students. Please click on the links below to access recommended summer readings and math activities.
Have a wonderful and safe summer.

Welcome to the Aspen Middle School Summer Math
Please note the following:
Summer math is required of all Aspen Middle School students entering Grades 5 -12.
This work should be completed on a weekly basis, if possible. Notice the hour on the due date, it separates assignments into hour-long chunks. Summer math is to be completed prior to the first day of school. One plan would be to complete an hour of math each week.
Student progress and proficiency will be saved each time a student logs in to their Khan Academy account, teachers will begin the school year with this information.
Summer math is intended to reinforce and deepen understanding of prerequisite skills necessary to enter specific math classes.
Although these problems are presented online, they are not intended to be done solely with mental math. Use a notebook to record notes and to show all work.
If you have questions or problems, contact Kris Kaplinski, kkaplinski@aspenk12.net, Aspen Middle School Math Specialist, or your current math teacher.
Know your multiplication facts. You can and should practice these at any time.
Some families may want to engage in more than 1 hour weekly. If so, have your child do the entire “Entering _ Grade Level Math” course in Khan, not just the assigned exercises.
To access the Summer Math Exercises, please click the appropriate link below, determined by the math class that you plan to enter in August 2025:
Please follow this Tutorial Video to walk you through the process.

Troubleshooting
Do you see the following message when trying to join a Khan Academy class? “Cannot join this class, coach’s class: cannot_Modify_Coaches” Your account was most likely set up by a parent, and you will need your parent to log in to their parent account and allow for you to add more ‘coaches/classes’ to your student account. Directions here. If all else fails, please follow the links above to access the Khan Academy activities.
Troubleshooting
For new students, if you do not yet have an aspenk12.net email account. Log in from your personal email for this summer.
