Seach Weekly Newsletter
Nicole Doherty, Principal
December 15th, 2024
It's hard to believe this is our last Seach Newsletter of the year! We have had a great week of festive activities in our classrooms. Our Kindergarten classes have been celebrating Holidays Around the World and our third graders participated in a virtual field trip to the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys! After meeting dolphins live on camera and learning about their life cycles, they were able to ask the trainers questions. This knowledge helped them build upon the Wit and Wisdom texts they have been reading about in class.
On behalf of our entire Seach Family, I want to extend warm wishes to each and every one of you for the happiest of holidays, a peaceful and relaxing winter break, and a joyous season spent with family and friends! Our next Newsletter will post on January 5th, 2025!
Our Holiday Spirit Week continues into next week. Please see below for more information about our daily themes!
Registration for Ms. Doyle's Drama Club closes December 20th.

There have been a few cases of Walking Pneumonia in the school and we want everyone to be aware of the symptoms and strategies to prevent it from spreading.
What is Walking Pneumonia?
Walking Pneumonia is a bacterial infection caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae increased in the United States since late spring and has remained high. The proportion of patients discharged from emergency departments with a diagnosis of M. pneumoniae-associated pneumonia or acute bronchitis has been increasing over the past six months.
How does it spread?
M. pneumoniae bacteria are spread by inhaling respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Other people can get infected if they breathe in those droplets. Strategies that prevent respiratory viruses, such as handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes, also prevent these bacteria from spreading.
Walking pneumonia symptoms to look for:
- a fever of 101°F (38.5°C) or below
- a cough that can last for weeks to months
- fatigue (feeling very tired)
- headache, chills, sore throat, and other cold or flu-like symptoms
- fast breathing or breathing with grunting or wheezing sounds
- labored breathing that makes the rib muscles retract (when muscles under the ribcage or between ribs draw inward with each breath)
- ear pain
- chest pain or stomach pain
- malaise (feeling of discomfort)
- vomiting
- loss of appetite (in older kids) or poor feeding (in infants)
- rash
- joint pain
Remember the 24 Hour rule of thumb!
Students may return to school after the following:
After 24 hours without a temperature (and without taking fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Advil/Motrin)
After 24 hours without nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (and tolerating a normal diet for at least 2 solid meals)
After 24 hours of receiving medication (such as antibiotics, eye ointments) Students should NOT attend school if:
They have an undiagnosed rash. A rash may be indicative of many things, frequently of illnesses that are contagious. Therefore, a student must be seen by a physician to evaluate and determine the nature and contagiousness of the rash.
They have a red eye with discharge/pus or mucus. Pink eyes often are itchy or "feels like something is in the eye". The student must be treated with an eye ointment/antibiotic for 24 hours at least before returning to school.
They have been to the ER or Hospital for any illness or injury. The student must return to school with a note from the MD allowing for return to school and any necessary modifications or restrictions.
We are stronger together!
