A Wonderful Second Week—Full Schedules, Smiles, and Sunglasses!
Dear Families,
What a fantastic second week of school! With everything now in place, our students experienced a full, vibrant schedule—including academics, electives, and after-school sports. The energy in the building has been wonderful, and it's clear that our community is off to a strong start.
Full Days, Full of Possibility
Students settled into their complete routines this week, moving confidently between classes, lunches, and activities. Teachers reported strong engagement, smooth transitions, and students who are already taking ownership of their learning. After-school sports also kicked into high gear, with teams practicing and preparing for the season ahead. It's been great to see our athletes embracing teamwork, school spirit, and healthy habits.
A Fun Start-of-the-Year Moment
One of the highlights of the week? Our "sunglasses rotation" for the start-of-the-year photo! A single pair of sunglasses made its way around the group, and with each new wearer came bigger smiles, playful poses, and plenty of laughter. It was a small moment, but it captured exactly the kind of joy, connection, and community we hope to nurture all year long.
Looking Ahead
As we move into Week 3, please continue to support your child by:
Encouraging consistent bedtimes and morning routines
Checking in about their classes, teachers, and new friends
Celebrating their involvement in after-school activities
Thank you for your continued partnership. Here's to many more weeks of growth, connection, and fun!
Best,
Jes
Communication Plan with Families about Student Achievement
This school year, we are strengthening our home-to-school partnership by increasing communication about student learning, progress, and opportunities for support. We believe that student achievement is strongest when families, students, and educators share timely information and work together to respond to both successes and challenges.
Families can expect regular updates throughout the year, including:
Progress reports at the end of the first and third quarters.
Report cards at the midpoint and end of the school year.
Family-teacher conferences twice each year to discuss student progress, goals, and supports.
Quarterly intervention updates for students receiving academic or behavioral intervention services.
Individual teacher communication when a student does not demonstrate proficiency on an assessment. In these instances, teachers will reach out to families and provide the student with an opportunity for reassessment after appropriate additional learning and support.
Our goal is to ensure that families have a clear understanding of their child’s progress and know when support may be helpful. We encourage parents and caregivers to reach out to teachers with questions, share information that may help us support their child, and partner with us in celebrating growth along the way. Together, we can help every student build the skills, confidence, and habits needed for success.
If you have other ideas about what would be helpful for communication, please email Jes at jessica.wills@lamoillesouth.org
UnBound Announcement from Amy Thompson
I hope you all had a wonderful summer!
I wanted to send a quick update on Unbound as we look ahead to the new school year. We are anticipating starting our fall session the week of September 14th, and we are currently working on finalizing our class offerings.
We have quite a few great classes lined up, but we’re also trying to add a few more. Many of our instructors are still figuring out their schedules and which days they’ll be available, so we’re giving them a little more time to get everything sorted out. Hopefully, we will have our classes finalized by early next week, at which point I’ll get registration information out to everyone.
For our summer camp families - I apologize for not getting a final camp email out! I ended up being away for a bit after camp and wasn’t able to get that last message out. I am still gathering all of the pictures from camp and will absolutely get those out to everyone. We had such a great time this summer, and I want to thank everyone who participated for making it such a fun 5 weeks!
We’re looking forward to another great year of Unbound, with lots of fun after-school activities, classes, and opportunities for students.
I’ll be in touch as soon as registration is ready, with the hope of kicking things off the week of September 14th. Keep an eye out for registration information early next week!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Thanks so much, and we’ll see you soon!
