You Belong Here

Last week, band students from across the district spanning grades 4 through 12 performed together at All Bands Night. Our Talent Show was on Thursday at 5:30. I was fortunate to be able to attend both events! It was wonderful to see all the talent that we have at Sanborn!

5tth Grade Students also had the opportunity to have "A Revolution of Her Own", which featured the life of the first woman to professionally fight in the American Military, Deborah Sampson. History came alive for students.

We will continue learning about the Mood Meter. Students are learning words from the Blue Zone which represents low energy and low pleasantness: You can practice these words at home!

  • Kindergarten – hurt

  • First Grade – down

  • Second Grade – hopeless

  • Third Grade – empathetic

  • Fourth Grade – ashamed

  • Fifth Grade – pessimistic

We continue with our March theme of the month: Problem Solving & Flexibility.

At home, you can support your child’s problem-solving and flexibility skills with these strategies:

  • Cooking Together – Have them help plan a meal with what’s available, adjust recipes, or find substitutions if an ingredient is missing.
  • Puzzle Time – Jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and brain teasers encourage problem-solving.
  • Household Challenges – Give them a small budget and let them plan a grocery list or rearrange furniture in a room to optimize space.
  • "What If" Scenarios – Ask questions like, "What if the power went out?" or "How would you get ready for school without electricity?"
  • Fix-It Projects – Let them try simple household repairs (e.g., tightening a screw, figuring out why something isn't working).

  • Thank you for your continued support in making Sanborn a place where everyone belongs!

    Redistricting

DillingerRAD will present final recommendations to the School Committee at the March 20th meeting.

The approved redistricting plan will be implemented in the 2026-27 school year. This allows the district sufficient time to operationally plan for the new school zones. We appreciate the continued participation from the community during this process. To review information on the redistricting process, please visit our webpage.

    Clinic Notice:

Head Lice: Parents are encouraged to check your child’s hair for head lice regularly. If you discover head lice or have any questions please contact the School Nurse at 978-247-9702.

March is National Nutrition Month and I want to take this opportunity to remind parents of the importance of breakfast in the lives of your children. Frequently I see students in the clinic with the complaint of a stomach ache and/or headache who have not eaten breakfast. Hunger can lead to each of these ailments which prevent optimal learning and cause lost classroom time. Mornings can be a challenge to juggle it all, but please make time for your child to eat breakfast, it will set the foundation for a successful day at school.

Another option for the busy household is breakfast at school. Breakfast is available at school each morning free of charge from 8:45 – 8:55 am. Please remind your child of this option if eating breakfast at home is not possible. Lunch is also available free of charge this year and should be ordered in advance on the APS Food Services website at https://www.andoverschoolnutrition.com/

Though meals are free of charge this year, there are benefits to registering for Free and Reduced Lunch, including free or reduced prices with transportation, athletics, and more. If you feel your family qualifies, information and the application are available on the website.

Please contact Andrea Pereira - Andrea Pereira-Piantedosi in the Sanborn Cafeteria at andrea.pereirapiante@andoverma.us

or Lisa Slattery in the Sanborn Clinic with questions at lisa.slattery@andoverma.us
