MAP Testing is This Week!

MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This type of assessment challenges top performers without overwhelming students whose skills are below grade level.

The MAP Growth tests include multiple choice, drag and drop, and other types of questions. For sample tests, visit https://warmup.nwea.org/

MAP Growth uses a RIT scale to accurately measure what students know, regardless of their grade level. It also measures growth over time. Teachers use this information to inform instruction, personalize learning, and monitor growth of individual students.

We take MAP Growth Math and Reading tests three times a year in kindergarten-fifth grades. We do a fall, winter, and spring administration of the test.

Mrs. Johnson's Journaling

Things may look a little different around here, students are learning and growing every day. I loved being able to visit some different classrooms this week and get some pictures of the great work being done at Bayyari.

Our counselor is still coming to classes for guidance lessons. Our teachers can utilize not only themselves to teach subjects, such as writing, but also the experts at the Teacher's College through online lessons. Our intervention groups are still taking place and even students who are home on their blended learning days are joining through Zoom.

Thank you teachers, staff, students, and parents for helping us to have another successful week. It's always a great day to be a Bayyari Bear!

As always, we are here to help! Please contact us at (479)750-8760 or email us at bayyariinfo@sdale.org.

How is COVID Affecting the Lives of Our Children?

Any type of community crisis affects children in different ways. An article I recently reviewed called “COVID-19: Reducing Long-Term Impact on Children’s Mental Health'' located at chkd.org, compares past community crises such as 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina to COVID-19. They mentioned that children may let COVID shape their worldview like the Great Depression did for our grandparents. During a community crisis, there tends to be a rise in mental health problems. One out of six children currently have mental health problems. Mental Health problems can include: problems sleeping, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety and disruptive behaviors. Parents are unable to control the community or state boundaries put on them to reduce the spread of COVID, however parents can help how it is handled at home. Parents can help their children by giving them fact-based information only about the virus, limited exposure to the media, and limit conversations about their own fears. It is helpful for children to have supportive adults and healthy relationships at home. Children also need to continue to have close contact with their friends even if it is through video chats, texting or phone calls. Lastly, make sure that you give your child a chance to talk about their own feelings. How is this virus affecting them personally? If you feel your child is struggling and needs a little extra help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school counselor, your child’s teacher, or the principals. We are here to help!
