🎊 From The Director's Desk

Hard to believe, but June is already here! The last day of school for students is June 10th, and then the real fun begins — SUMMER!

We are excited to kick off another amazing summer season filled with activities, programs, camps, sports, and opportunities for our community to stay active, engaged, and connected. Our staff has been hard at work preparing a summer packed with fun for all ages.

This year we have already set record numbers of youth participants in our T-Ball and Coach Pitch leagues, with a total of 155 children registered! League play officially begins in June, and we cannot wait to see our young athletes out on the fields learning skills, building friendships, and enjoying the game.

In addition, we have also reached record enrollment numbers for our Summer Kids Camp Program with over 500 participants registered — nearly 100 more students than last year! Our camp staff is ready to provide an exciting and memorable summer filled with daily activities including sports, recreational games, arts and crafts, STEM projects, themed activity days, field trips, water days, special guest presenters, team-building activities, and so much more. Every week will bring new adventures and opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and have fun.

We also encourage families to visit us at franklin.arux.app to explore the many programs and classes available this summer. There truly is something for everyone! Some of our featured summer offerings include:

  • STEAM Camps
  • Smart Start Art Camps
  • Youth Painting Classes
  • Chess Camps
  • Table Tennis Camp
  • Track & Field and Cross Country Camps
  • One-Day Mad Science Camps
  • Baking Classes for Kids
  • Summer Theatre Camps
  • Sports Skills Clinics

Be sure to register early, as many programs are filling quickly!

And it’s not just for kids — we have great opportunities for parents, adults, and seniors as well. Whether you are looking to stay active, meet new people, or simply try something new, we have offerings for you too. Programs include:

  • Pickleball Leagues and Open Gym
  • Fitness and Wellness Classes
  • Yoga and Low-Impact Exercise Programs
  • Game and Card Clubs at the CERC
  • Adult Arts and Craft Workshops
  • Community Events and Social Gatherings
  • Senior Activity Programs

Our mission continues to be helping individuals and families stay active socially, emotionally, and physically while creating positive experiences and lifelong memories within our community.

Thank you for your continued support of our programs and staff. We are looking forward to another safe, successful, and fun-filled summer with all of you.

Let’s get the summer fun started!

Warm regards,

Matt Gomez

Welcome Our Newest Team Member: Serena Masarik! 🎉

We are excited to officially welcome Serena Masarik to our team as our new Recreation Coordinator – Early Childhood & Programs!

Serena will play an important role in helping lead our new 4K Wraparound Program while also supporting our Kids Camp programming. As we continue to grow and strengthen our 4K WAC program, Serena’s role will continue to evolve alongside the needs of our families and community.

Serena is already a familiar face to many within our programs. She brings several years of experience working in our Kids Club and Kids Camp programs, including time spent serving in these roles while completing her college education. In 2025, Serena earned her Bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies with a minor in Sociology.

Over the past year, Serena has worked within our district in a 4K classroom at Southwood Glen, where she gained valuable hands-on experience in early childhood education. Through this work, she developed a strong understanding of classroom routines, age-appropriate learning environments, and effective teaching strategies. She also brings experience with learning zones and play-based learning approaches, along with a solid understanding of how 4K programming operates within our district.

Serena’s background, enthusiasm, and dedication will help us continue building a high-quality 4K Wraparound Program for our families. In addition, her strong communication and organizational skills make her a wonderful addition to our department.

Serena’s official start date will be June 15. Until then, she will finish out the current school year in her existing role while also spending time training with our team and learning department systems to help ensure a smooth transition.

Please join us in giving Serena a warm welcome—we are thrilled to have her joining our team and look forward to the positive impact she will make in our programs and community! 😊

SaveStation Dedication Ceremony

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Franklin Public Schools proudly partnered with ZOLL Medical, SaveStation®, Project ADAM, the Franklin Fire Department and the Franklin Health Department to celebrate the installation of a new outdoor AED and SaveStation at the Franklin Community Education & Recreation Center.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted the importance of public AED access and emergency preparedness. The donation was inspired by Franklin teen Carter Zahn, whose life was saved by quick action and an AED after he collapsed during a basketball game in 2024. This SaveStation was dedicated in his family’s honor.

Community members had the opportunity to participate in live CPR/AED demonstrations and connect with local health and wellness organizations focused on safety, prevention, and community preparedness. During the ceremony, Project ADAM awarded the Program HERO Award to Assistant Fire Chief Shannon Anthoine for her contributions to developing AED programs, like this one, within the community and her role in demonstrating the lifesaving impact of preparedness within the Franklin community.

The climate-controlled outdoor SaveStation is located along the new walking path on the Community Education & Recreation grounds. This SaveStation helps ensure 24/7 public access to a life-saving AED for the Recreation Center, nearby athletic fields, playgrounds, and surrounding community.
