Community Update
Hello North Rockland Families,
Earlier today, the North Rockland Central School District welcomed educators from across the Hudson Valley, along with representatives from the New York State Education Department’s Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages, for a Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (RBERN) Learning Exchange focused on our Dual Language elementary programs, now in their fifth year. Throughout the day, participants observed classroom instruction, learned about the Bilingual Village and Young Scholars Seal of Biliteracy Program and exchanged ideas for strengthening bilingual education across the region.
On Wednesday evening, North Rockland High School hosted its first Coffeehouse of the year, bringing students together to share their musical talents with the community. The evening featured more than 20 performances across a variety of instruments and musical styles, highlighting students’ talents not only as musicians but also in selecting their own music, coordinating with peers and preparing through practice.
In addition to developing their musical talents, students have expanded their learning through fall visits to Cropsey Farm and other educational outings. On Friday, sixth graders from Willow Grove Elementary School hiked around Bear Mountain and visited the zoo, connecting with nature and learning about wildlife. Meanwhile, Farley Elementary School fourth graders visited the Liberty Science Center for hands-on learning that supports their science curriculum, including the human body, animal adaptations, rocks, sound, energy and electricity. These opportunities bring learning to life while giving students new ways to explore the world around them.
If you were on New Main Street Thursday, you may have spotted NRHS students enrolled in the Introduction to Art course through St. Thomas Aquinas College and Advanced Placement 2-D Art and Design class painting festive designs ahead of Halloween. Transforming local storefront windows into works of art to add seasonal flair to downtown Haverstraw has become a much-anticipated, annual October tradition…be sure to check out our students’ fantastic work!

Principals Month
In honor of National Principals Month, we’re highlighting a few of our dedicated principals each week throughout October, sharing their educational philosophies, career journeys and the lessons they’ve learned from students along the way.
Kelley Herrmann, NRHS Extension
In her twelfth year at North Rockland, Kelley Herrmann believes that a school flourishes when its entire community works together and puts students first. Students are teachers, too and one lesson this principal has learned is that one cup of coffee in the morning is enough!
Christopher Frank, Neary Educational Center
Christopher Frank at North Rockland in August 2021 as Assistant Director of Special Services, later serving as Director of Special Programs and Grants before becoming Principal of Neary Educational Center in March 2025. With just over five years in the district and about a year and a half as principal, he believes, "...every student has the ability to grow, but not every student follows the same path to get there. Our job as educators is to understand where students are and provide them with the support they need to succeed. At Neary, progress looks different for every student, but every milestone matters." Mr. Frank's students have reinforced the importance of celebrating every milestone, reminding them that sometimes the smallest steps forward are the biggest victories.
