Current Events
Dear Families,
We landed! And what a beautiful few days we have had! The children have all settled in so easily. I am always astounded by how many inches have been grown and how many teeth have been lost in such a short time.
Important drop-off information: Starting this coming Monday (8/31), please plan on saying goodbye to your children outside the school rather than walking them to their classroom. This facilitates an easy transition and start of the day. Thank you!
Staff update: You may have heard that Audra Ouellette has also returned. She will be working primarily in K/1.
Crabapple bonanza: The 2-3 class collected and counted 1,404 crabapples on the playground yesterday. The crabapples are now sitting in a bag/basket outside the front door, and are up for grabs if you would like to make jelly.
Reminder: After school transportation: Be sure to notify Shannon Minor if there are any changes in your child’s regular after school plans well before the end of the day. Please call the school (802-545-3302), text the school cell phone (802-349-5305) or email Shannon: sminor@acsdvt.org. We check messages frequently.
REMINDER: Indoor/outdoor clothing and gear - All students (K-5) need the following:
Sneakers - especially for P.E Tuesdays and Thursdays to ensure safe movement. Students will not be able to participate in P.E. without sneakers.
Best planning of all: Please send your child to school with sneakers or other shoes that are made for running and jumping starting on Day 1 and every day.
A complete change of clothes
Rain boots, rain pants and rain jackets.
Snow boots, snow pants, winter coat, hat, mittens or gloves.
Attendance: Please build the habit of consistent attendance. Any excused absence requests for all or part of the school day for three or more days must be approved by the Superintendent, who may request justification or certification for any excused absence request.
As the teachers and I reflected on last year, we talked about the number of extended trips that students took with their families. While we all value these opportunities for our students, we also ask that, whenever possible, you plan these trips during school vacations. Having students away from the classroom has a significant impact on the classroom culture and continuity of learning - not only for your child but also their classmates. Learning is a highly interactive, social process best served by stable attendance.
Lunch volunteers: If you would like to volunteer to help with lunch prep and service (11:00-12:00) please sign up here for August/September dates. We need volunteers for next Monday (8/31). No experience needed! If you are new to volunteering, you will need to apply here.
Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301),
Have a lovely weekend. Christina
