Science Hill High School Newsletter
December 20, 2024

From the Principal
Students and Families,
It is hard to believe that today marks the end of the first semester. I want to thank all of our students and staff for their hard work and dedication to excellence this semester. I hope all of you are able to spend time with family and loved ones over the break. We look forward to students returning on January 7 rested and ready for the second half of the year.
I would like to share one piece of good news; Science Hill High School recently received a letter grade of A from the TN Department of Education based on our students performance from the 23-24 school year! We are proud of this distinction as it reflects the quality of our students and staff.
I would also like to thank our families for all of your support throughout the year. We could not be the school we are without you. We appreciate you and all you do to help us and support your students.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Go Toppers!
Josh Carter
SHHS Principal

"A" for Academic Excellence
The Tennessee Department of Education released their second round of letter grades for schools on Thursday, and Science Hill earned the highest grade, an A!
Johnson City Schools had another strong showing this year with South Side Elementary, North Side Elementary, Lake Ridge Elementary and Woodland Elementary all also receiving A grades. The schools that received Bs included Towne Acres Elementary, Liberty Bell Middle School and Indian Trail Middle School, while Cherokee, Fairmont and Mountain View all received Cs.
“We’re proud of our schools’ performance in this second release of school letter grades,” said Dr. Steve Barnett, Superintendent of Johnson City Schools. “These grades are a testament to our community’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting education and the unwavering efforts to provide our students with the best possible learning experience. Our dedicated administrators, faculty, and staff consistently deliver an outstanding public education that prepares Johnson City’s students for success beyond high school.”
This is the TDOE’s second year of giving letter grades to all schools. According to the TDOE, “school letter grades allow families and communities an opportunity to see how well their schools are serving students.” Schools were given a grade of between A-F, with the following values equating to the proper letter grade: A (5 to 4.5), B (4.4 to 3.5) C (3.4 to 2.5), D (2.4 to 1.5) or an F (1.4 to 1.0).
