Summit Road STEM Elementary
September 2026 SPARK Newsletter
Our SPARKS are back!
What a great start to the school year at Summit Road STEM Elementary! Our students and staff have jumped right in, and it has been exciting to see classrooms filled with learning, curiosity, creativity, and lots of SPARK!
We have also officially kicked off our Friday Morning SPARK Meetings, where we come together as a school community to celebrate our students, recognize positive choices, build connections, and remind ourselves what it means to be Safe, Patient, Accepting, Responsible, and Kind. These weekly gatherings are already becoming a special part of our Summit Road tradition!
Across the building, students are settling into routines, building friendships, exploring new ideas, and beginning the important work of becoming problem-solvers and creators. From our STEM experiences and hands-on learning to reading, math, and our daily opportunities to grow, there is a lot happening at Summit!
Thank you to our families for helping us get the year off to such a positive start. Your partnership makes a tremendous difference. We are excited about the year ahead and all the learning, growing, designing, creating, and sharing that is still to come.
Together, we will SPARK! 💜⚡

The PTO helps create fun experiences for students, supports teachers, and builds a strong school community. You don’t need a lot of time to help—there are many simple ways to get involved, like donating items, helping at events, or sharing ideas. Every bit of support makes a difference. Communication from Summit Road STEM Elementary:
We are using TalkingPoints as our main communication method. Parents/Guardians will be automatically enrolled with your phone number and e-mail addresses on file in the office.
It is very important that your phone number is updated so you can stay up to date with information from the building! To begin, TalkingPoints will automatically allow us to communicate with text messages to your phone. If you wish, you can download the TalkingPoints Parent app to your phone. This allows you to do more advanced features such as react to messages, RSVP to events, and more. Downloading an app is optional.
Any changes in phone number, e-mail address, or other important information should be communicated to the front office as soon as you can.
Change of addresses are required by Ohio Law, and should be communicated with our welcome center. Maggie in the Summit front office can help with this process.
Summit Road STEM Elementary 6th Annual Walk-a-thon Fundraiser:
Hello Summit Road Families and welcome to our 6th Annual Walkathon Fundraiser event! This is a super fun event for the whole school and an important fundraiser for Summit. We will raise money leading up to the actual event in September. We will have music and some giveaways to motivate us along the way. More information will come home as the event gets closer!
Purpose of Walk-a-thon
Funds raised from our Walkathon will be used to support our Environmental STEM focus by helping to update our Makerspace for students, purchase books, classroom supplies, and materials for our gardens, courtyard, and Ecolab, help cover the cost of transportation for field trips, purchase materials and resources for our Culinary and Ornithology Labs; and other special school events/activities. The more money we raise, the more we can support our students and STEM program at Summit! *If sponsors are unable to use the 99Pledges site, we will gladly accept cash, check, or money orders. Contact Mr. Jacobs with questions regarding the fundraiser.
We will have the pledge site up and running soon!

Who To Contact:
Matthew R. Jacobs, Principal
My name is Matthew Jacobs, and I am honored to continue serving as the principal of Summit Road STEM Elementary. As we begin a new school year, I want to take a moment to reintroduce myself and share how proud I am to be part of this exceptional learning community.
I come from a family of educators and followed that passion after graduating high school. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashland University and my master’s in Educational Leadership from Ohio Dominican University, and continue my learning with Ashland University. My professional journey includes roles as an elementary teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal.
At Summit Road STEM, we are focused on hands-on, problem-based learning and real-world applications. Our students have access to unique learning spaces like our wetlands and garden areas, and they engage in innovative work through programs like our culinary lab and STEM challenges. We’re proud of our partnerships with COSI, The Ohio State University, The PAST Foundation, and OSLN (Ohio STEM Learning Network), which help us extend learning beyond the classroom.
Outside of school, I enjoy time with my wife Sarah and our daughter Janie. We love being outdoors, relaxing with family, and volunteering with our therapy dog, Kip.
I believe that strong schools are built on strong relationships. I look forward to working with you and supporting every child’s growth and success. Let’s make this a great year together.
Sincerely,
Matthew Jacobs
