Digital Citizenship Week
Digital Citizenship is the ability to navigate our digital environments in a way that's safe and responsible and to actively and respectfully engage in these spaces (mediasmarts.ca). Supporting our students to use digital media and resources responsibly is a collaborative effort that involves both home and school to actively engage in a supportive manner. Establishing family expectations for the use of technology and talking at home about how to use technology and digital tools safely and respectfully, can help build our students understanding of digital citizenship. Below are some ideas from CommonSense Media, that may help to spark conversation and set expectations about using digital environments.
We Are Safe
- Ask a grown-up for permission before trying a new app or website
- Never share private information online, like passwords, full name, address, or date of birth
- Tell a grown-up if anything online makes us feel uncomfortable, sad, or unsafe.
We Are Kind
- Pause the device and respond if someone speaks to us or needs our attention
- Not tease, embarrass, or bully others when communicating with tech (online chat, social media, texting, etc).
- Stand up for and support a person if they're being bullied (be an upstander)
We Are Healthy
How will we balance our screen time?
- Decide on screen-free times or zones (bedroom, dinner table, etc.)
- Make sure screen time doesn't interfere with healthy activities like school, exercise, sleep and time with friends and family
- Pay attention to how we're feeling when using tech, and take a break if we need to

Cross Country 2024
Congratulations to our cross country runners who ran in the district meet at Fort Henry. It was a spectacular day for running on the hill. Shout out to Emma who came 13th in the bantam girls race and a huge shout out to Ethan who had a goal to place third in the bantam boys race and managed to secure a bronze medal! All of our runners had personal bests at this meet and we are so proud of their efforts! Well done Panthers!

KINGSTON FRONTENACS GAME- FIELD TRIP NOVEMBER 6TH, 2024. GRADES SK1-8!!!!
Our school’s Grade 1-8 classes are being included in a wonderful opportunity to attend the Kingston Frontenacs School Day Game!! This game is being held during school hours for students within the Greater Kingston school boards including Limestone. Perth Road will be attending. Buses will leave Perth Road Public School at 9:30 and we will board them to return at 1:00 at The Leon’s Center where the game takes place. Students can take their normal bus to school and will return in plenty of time to take their regular bus home.
The cost per student is $22. This will cover the cost of their ticket and the bus ride to and from school. Our goal is to have every single student attend this event. If any family requires financial assistance please let us know and it will be provided. There will be some parent spots available per class. Parent tickets will be $16. Parents will need to meet us there. If you are interested in attending with us please fill out the volunteer section here on school-day and also email lloydjef@limestone.on.ca. We cannot guarantee all those who wish to go, can attend.
Students are permitted to bring their own lunches, snacks and drinks to the game. The canteens will be open for those who wish to make purchases. This will only occur if a teacher or adult escorts them or gives them permission to do so. This cannot be guaranteed.
If you have any questions please email Mr. Lloyd at the school at lloydjef@limestone.on.ca. He has all the pertinent details. As well, feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
Please complete all of the information needed here on school-day.com and submit payment or request financial assistance by November 4th, 2024.
Sincerely,
The Grade 1-8 Teachers at PRPS.

Student Accident Insurance
UNDER THE EDUCATION ACT THE BOARD IS NOT PERMITTED TO PROVIDE INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR ACCIDENTS TO PUPILS. THEREFORE, the Board recommends consideration of The insure my Kids plan to any parent/guardian, who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent/guardian and the insurance company.
For more information please visit the LDSB website.

School Bus Safety Rules
Riding the school bus is a privilege requiring a certain level of safety and decorum. A rider's privileges may be revoked if they cannot ride safely. The following provides basic safety rules for riders. Clink the button below for a complete list of bus safety rules.
Riding the Bus
- The School's code of conduct should always be obeyed on the bus.
- Take your seat promptly and sit facing forward at all times.
- Place bags and backpacks on your lap. Keep the aisle clear at all times.
- Windows should only be opened with the permission of the driver. Always keep your head, hands and arms inside the bus. Throwing objects inside or outside of the bus is not permitted.
- Talk quietly, the driver needs to concentrate to safely drive the bus. Be extremely quiet when at railraod crossings so the driver can hear if a train is coming.
- Eating and drinking (including chewing gum) are not allowed on school buses at any time. Smoking/vaping is not permitted on or near the bus.
- Always follw the bus driver/monitor's instructions and be respectful.
Student Guest Bus Riders
Students are reminded that notes from families regarding a change in hometime bussing need to be signed by either Ms. Fisher or Mrs. Croth in the office before the end of the school day. These notes are to be given to the driver when you get on the bus. Being able to ride an alternate bus home with a friend is not guaranteed and is dependent on seating availability. All changes to students’ busing routines need to be made in advance. Bus notes from students without a school signature will not be accepted by the bus drivers.
School Yard Outside of School Hours
School staff supervise the school yard beginning at 9:05AM and ending at 3:35PM. Children need to be directly supervised on the school yard outside of those hours. Thanks for your support.
Message from the PRPS Office
Visitors
The school office is open between 8:30AM and 4PM. Please call or email if you need assistance with a matter.
Student Emergency Information Forms
A hard copy of the information we have on file will be sent home this week for your review. Please review this information, make any necessary changes and send this information back as soon as possible. This information is important so that you receive school communications and we can reach you in case of an emergency. These forms must be returned not later than September 30th. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
Medical Plans of Care & Medication at School
If your child requires special care for a medical condition or takes medication while at school, please notify the school's office so that the appropriate arrangements and paperwork can be completed or updated. If you have already informed the school of your child's medical condition, you will be contacted, if needed, to establish or update a Plan of Care for your child while at school.
If your child needs to take prescription medication while at school there are forms that need to be completed and returned to the school each year before the medication can be administered. Please click on the links to access those forms. Also, please check the expiry dates on all medications (ie. Epipens, Inhalers) to ensure they are current before sending them to school.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We are always happy to help clarify information.
Sign up for School-Day: Permissions & Payments!
Perth Road PS is excited to offer our families a secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you will be able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.
Through this online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:
- Field trips
- Athletic team fees
- Fundraising offerings
The easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.
The School-Day Introduction Letter will be sent home with new students and those not registered soon. Use the instructions in it to sign up for a School-Day account at www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.
With your support, we look forward to a successful implementation of this practical application!
