Exploring, Creating, and Growing Together
Whew! We wrapped up our first full week of school since May, and it’s incredible to see the energy and curiosity flowing through our hallways and learning spaces. Students have been diving into new topics, tackling challenging content, and discovering fresh opportunities to explore—whether it’s digging in the STEM garden, discovering the local bookmobile, collaborating with classmates, or making exciting connections in their learning.

We are deeply grateful for your partnership in fostering this love of learning. Your encouragement at home makes a world of difference in the way students engage here at school.

Safety Spotlight: Arrival & Dismissal - As we continue to settle into our daily routines, we want to keep arrival and dismissal times safe and efficient for everyone. Your cooperation is essential in helping protect our students, staff, and families during these high-traffic times:

  • Yield to school buses exiting campus—our drivers are on tight schedules and appreciate your courtesy.

  • Watch for pedestrians and cyclists—many of our students are vulnerable in these busy moments.

  • Stay off phones and remove distractions—we need all eyes on the road and surroundings.

  • Keep car tags visible in the car line to help us move safely and efficiently.

We’ll have more presence at the north gate/access road to support safety efforts. Thank you for your attentiveness and teamwork.

Mark Your Calendars for the coming days...

  • Picture Day – This Wednesday, August 20 - Smiles ready! All school photo orders will be completed online—see details below to pre-order.

  • Curriculum Night – This Thursday, August 21 - A special evening to learn more about classroom routines, curriculum, and expectations for the year ahead. More details are located below.

  • Eagle Fest – This Friday, August 22 - Join this community celebration hosted by ZCS Athletics! Games, fun, and school spirit for the whole family. (With my broken foot, I’m sadly sidelined from the dunk tank this year—Mr. Gatlin’s “bionic arm” keeps him out as well!)

Thank you for helping us make Boone Meadow a place where students explore, create, and thrive every day!

We are so proud of the energy and contributions your children bring to Boone Meadow each day. With your partnership, we’re off to a strong start—and the best is yet to come!

Enjoy the beautiful weekend, and we eagerly await the return of our students' smiles next week!

Warm regards,

Tom and Jarrod

As we plan for the year ahead, we want to ensure to communicate regarding our expectations regarding electronic devices. These devices are a distraction to our students (not just the students wearing them) and have become a disruption to the classroom learning environment. This is addressed in our elementary handbook Elementary Handbook and is copied below. Teachers will request students to store smartwatches/cell phones in their backpacks and lockers during the school day. Please note that our teachers have phones in their classrooms and will be able to communicate if an emergency occurs. As always, we thank you for your support and cooperation!

Electronic Devices and Other Restricted Items in School

The following items are restricted on school grounds: toys, trading cards, valuables, and electronic devices not academically necessary including but not limited to cell phones, tablets, and smart watches. These items may NOT be used by students in the building or on school-sponsored transportation, unless the student has permission by the supervising adult. Electronic devices are to be used for educational purposes only. When not in use for educational purposes they need to be off and stored in the student’s locker or backpack during the school day. A reminder that communication for a student’s dismissal change should not be made through a student’s electronic device but always needs to be made directly to the teacher or school office. The school accepts no responsibility if these items are lost, stolen or damaged and is not responsible for investigating the loss or damage of these items. The student and parents/guardians accept full responsibility for these items.

We know students being present at school benefits them in numerous ways from learning to connecting. Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 482, a new Indiana law as of July 2025, is bringing changes to how attendance is documented and reported to the state. Our ZCS Board of Trustees has updated our attendance policy and student handbooks to align with SEA 482. Below is a graphic to help you understand these updates.

ZCS GROW Programs & Child Care Beyond Instructional Day ZCS GROW Programs & Child Care Beyond Instructional Day

The school day hours for 1st-4th grade students are 7:50/8:00 - 2:30 each day, and ZCS Kindergarten hours are 8:50/9:00 - 2:30.

Due to our school day hours, some families require before/after care for their children. In addition, some are interested to see what types of extra-curricular programs are offered within ZCS. The GROW division of ZCS is the arm of our district that offers optional fee-based programs and care options for ZCS students and their families. Please see the link below for more details and information on how to sign up for one of our GROW programs.

GROW/Child Care Services (click for website)

  • Before and After-School Care (BAC) is available for all BME students if spots are available. The before/after school care programming is available as early as 6:45 AM and extends childcare from 2:30 to 6:00 PM. This program may or may not have openings, as it fills up very quickly.
  • Kindergarten Bridge and Early Start Spanish are optional, fee-based programs that “bridge” the time between the 7:50-8:00 arrival time for 1st-4th grade students, and the start of the instructional day for Kindergarten students, which is 8:50-9:00.
  • Access Days Care provides a childcare option for when school is not in session for parents who need care for their children during some of the school breaks during the year.
  • Eagle Rec (ERE) offers fee-based programs in a variety of interest areas, which typically start after school has already begun around Labor Day.

Arrival and Dismissal Details: Arrival and Dismissal Details:

Every morning and afternoon, we safely transport approximately 550 students within a 10-15 minute window. During dismissal, students stay in their classrooms until called for buses, cars, BAC, or walkers. Our dedicated staff ensures every child gets where they need to be. Thank you for following our routines and procedures—your cooperation is crucial to keeping everyone safe.

Car Riders:

  • Enter Boone Meadow via Eagle Church entrance/access road for both arrival and dismissal.
  • Near the end of the access road, Kindergarten-4th grade vehicles should form two lines and wait for staff signals to approach the curb.
  • Morning drop-off begins at 7:50; Kindergarten drop-off at 8:50.

Drop off / Pick up Times for Car Riders:

Universal Preschool:

  • Universal Preschool - Drop off time is at 8:15am - Drop off at door 1 (main entrance). Your drop off will begin after elementary students (1st-4th) have arrived and unloaded. Please line up in the left lane of the Eagle Church/BME access road, and wait to be called forward by Preschool staff.

  • Drop off at the curb unless otherwise necessary. Extra foot traffic delays arrival.
  • Adults are to remain in vehicles and students must exit on the curb side.
  • Keep the fire lane clear until signaled to pull up for potential emergencies and deliveries.
  • For dismissal/pick up, drivers are to clearly display car/family numbers. Please use the approved current school year placard provided your family at open house.

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures continued...

Walker/Bike:

We will assist with crossing Main Street whenever possible. Please note:

  • Inclement Weather: Walking/biking is discouraged in severe weather (heavy rain, snow, etc.). The office will decide if staff will be at the crosswalk.
  • No Staff Present: If no staff is at the crosswalk, an adult must escort students to the front doors, which open at approximately 7:50. Families should wait with students until the doors open.
  • Dismissal: Walkers/bikers are dismissed after car riders (around 2:40-2:45). If you pick up by car, display your family number placard you received on Meet the Teacher Night. This should be displayed from your rearview mirror when in the dismissal line.
  • Severe Weather: In stormy or inclement weather conditions, please use car rider procedures instead of walking/biking.
  • Safety: Do not bypass the car line to pick up students from the parking lot or other areas.

Bus Riders:

  • Refer to your teacher assignment email for bus stop times and locations.
  • Staff will supervise students from bus arrival to the classroom. Kindergarten students (Bridge & Early Start Spanish) are escorted from the bus to Bridge or Early Start Spanish, then to their classroom.
  • Please remember that you cannot switch buses to ride home with friends. A change of buses approval can only be made through the transportation department/managers.
