A Note About Today's Events

DPS 109 families,

As a father, I know that receiving communications about lockdowns and having your children experience them are unnerving. We take the education and safety of your children incredibly seriously, and we are thankful that none of our students were in harm’s way today. We know as well that children may have different reactions to situations like these.

If you believe your child may need extra support or have any concerns about the impact of hearing about today’s events, please let your child’s teacher or building principal know.

Sincerely,

Michael V. Simeck

Superintendent of Schools

Parent/Guardian Series Starts This Week!

District 109 is excited to announce that, in partnership with PPS109 and Dr. Doug Bolton, we will be hosting a series of virtual parent/guardian/community workshops this Spring. We will be kicking off this series on Thursday, April 6 at 7:00 pm, with a one-hour Zoom webinar focusing on: “Understanding Development.” This session will focus on an overview of the process of child development and how children develop at different rates. Please note that this is a change in the originally scheduled topic for April 6: “Parents and Guardians as Partners in Collaboration,” which will now occur on April 13th instead. Additional topics for the subsequent events will include:

  • Parents and Guardians as Partners in Collaboration (4/13)

  • Addressing The Greatest Worries of Parents & Guardians (4/27)

  • Understanding Children’s Hardest Moments (5/4)

  • The Basics of Childhood Resilience (5/11)

  • Collaborative Problem Solving (5/18)

Please click here to access the zoom link for all of the upcoming events. Each webinar will begin at 7 p.m. No sign-up is required ahead of time, and the sessions will be recorded and distributed for anyone that cannot attend.

Auditorium Ribbon Cutting Highlights!

We were thrilled to open up the new auditorium at Caruso right before spring break! We hosted a community ribbon cutting with elected officials and our friends from the Deerfield Park District, and then students at Caruso got to have their own special opening assemblies. Watch below!

The Board of Education held their monthly meeting on March 16th (after our most recent 109 News issue) so we are including a link to the BOE Recap below. Remember, you can always find these on dps109.org under the Board of Education section. We were also happy to have 2nd graders from Ms. DiJohn's class at Kipling come present their nonfiction reading research assignments! Great job, students!
