East Weekly
August 29, 2025
Hello Middle School East Families,
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. We hope you enjoy the long weekend with your family!
Also, don’t forget to check out our Student Hub website. We did some technology updates so you should be able to open this link at home now. Do NOT use the 'sites' app in the google waffle, please use the link. This is a one-stop shop for all things GMSE! From the school calendar and sporting events to lunch menus and grade-level assignments, the Student Hub is packed with helpful information to keep your child up to date throughout the school year.
I have also attached a button that shares information about GMSE's PBIS plan and building expectations. Check it out when you get a moment!
Have a great long weekend 🙂 and remind your children to charge their Chromebook for MAP testing on Tuesday!
Take care,
Megan Kirsten
GMSE Principal
District Updates:
To help comply with HB8, the district is launching weekly grade report emails beginning this Sunday. These reports will provide a snapshot of your child’s current grade averages as they appear in Infinite Campus at the time the report is generated. Please note: these are not final report card grades and may change as assignments are graded. It is even possible that a teacher collected an assignment on Friday and has not yet entered the grade.
A few important notes:
-
Only classes with grades in the current term will appear in the report.
-
Reports are only sent to guardians, as listed in IC.
-
If your child has no grades entered for the current term, a report will not be sent—this is normal at the start of each term.

6th Grade Updates:
Thank you to all the 6th grade families who joined us last week! If you weren’t able to attend the Open House, we’ve attached the Google Slides we shared in the cafeteria. Inside, you’ll also find a link to each teacher’s presentation.
We’re excited to partner with you throughout the year!
At the end of next week, please look for an email from your child’s HOUSE teacher. We are asking each family to respond about upcoming conferences. If teachers would like to meet at this time, you will be receiving an orange online Google Form to complete. If YOU would like to meet with teachers but they haven’t initiated a conference, you will be receiving a purple google form. You can indicate preferences for dates and times. Even if you do not need a conference at this time, we are asking each family to fill out the google form sent to them at the end of next week.
Students are gearing up to start a unit in ELA called Characters Who Change and Grow. Please take a look at this document to learn more about the unit and texts used.

Students in ELA classes are celebrating finishing the book Outsiders by watching the movie next week. Please return signed movie permission slips by Tuesday, or email your child’s ELA teacher with a note saying your child has permission to watch. Thank you!

7th Grade Updates:
Thank you to all the 7th and 8th grade families who joined us on Tuesday! We are aware that many families were unable to attend the Open House due to other school events, we’ve attached the Google Slides we shared in the cafeteria. Inside, you’ll also find a link to each teacher’s presentation.
We’re excited to partner with you throughout the year!
Art: 7th grade artists are finishing up their mini museums and they look amazing! Students did some research and chose 2 famous artworks to recreate. Then they made their own sculpture and assembled everything into a mini art gallery! They will be on display in the cafeteria next week.
**Please help your student remember to charge their Chromebook each night. It is important they come to class with it charged and ready to go. It is a 7th grade expectation and helps classes run smoothly!
Ace 7/8 students are investigating proportional and nonproportional relationships.
Math 7 students are working with probability and making predictions based on probability.
Math 7 Schuliger only: Reminder to please have your graph composition notebook for Tuesday!
8th Grade Updates:
Thank you to all the 7th and 8th grade families who joined us on Tuesday! We are aware that many families were unable to attend the Open House due to other school events, we’ve attached the Google Slides we shared in the cafeteria. Inside, you’ll also find a link to each teacher’s presentation.
We’re excited to partner with you throughout the year!
Art: Art 8 students (not 3D) are going to be painting landscapes next week. I will tell them on Monday, but students will pick a favorite place to paint. If you have any scenic pictures on a phone they want to use, you can email them to me at gladieuxb@gjps.org by Wednesday and I can print them. It is always nice to have a memory to go with their art!
Science: We are started our first unit in Life Science! Check out our newsletter to learn more about Units 1-3. This will be our main area of study for Q1.
Spanish: Students are creating introduction conversation skits to act out in class on Wednesday next week. It’s our first graded speaking activity of the year and we will be using class time Tuesday to work on them. We are excited to use the language in action!
Drop off/Pick-up procedures
It is important that families follow the drop-off and pick-up procedures to ensure the safety of ALL students. Please keep out of the parking lot in front of the school building. Students are running in front of buses, which is not safe. Please enter and exit school property from Clotts Rd.
You must enter from Clotts Rd.
Use the entire loop as shown.
Pull up tight to the person in front of you in our pick up line.
These things will help keep all of the cars off of Clotts Road and allow for our buses to enter the lot.
If you would like to park in the basketball lot and wait for your student, that also works, but make sure the outer loop is free from parked cars.
After your student is loaded, exit via Clotts Road.
Lastly, BE CAREFUL! There are a lot of students and cars in the lot!

Community Connection!
We’re always looking for ways to connect classroom learning to the real world or allow students to explore the future—and we’d love your help! If you're open to sharing your job title and a brief description of what you do, we’d love to learn more. We’re gathering a list of parents and guardians who might be interested in speaking to students about their careers, allowing students to shadow for a day, or participating in a future career fair.
If this sounds like something you'd consider, please take a moment to fill out this quick google form. Thank you for helping our students dream big!
