Principal'sSummer UpdateAugust 7, 2026

A Message from our Director of Early Childhood Education, Ms. Suzette Torres Perrier

Dear St. Mary's Community,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Summer Playdate! It was wonderful to see so many new and returning students and to feel their excitement for the upcoming school year.

Our Early Childhood students have had a fun and busy summer filled with learning, play, and faith!

Our infants have enjoyed indoor and outdoor activities, water play, and sensory experiences that support their growing motor skills. They also continued their early faith formation, most recently learning about the Transfiguration of Jesus through stories, colorful illustrations, and a painting activity.

Our toddlers have loved their daily walks to local playgrounds, where they explore nature, identify flowers and birds, and of course get very excited when they spot police cars, garbage trucks, and other vehicles! Water play has also been a favorite, especially as they learned about and practiced naming different fish and sea creatures.

Our Pre-K students spent the summer exploring a variety of themes, including the beach and sea animals, transportation, the Fourth of July, and outer space. Each week, they also learned about a new saint and the different ways we can share God’s love with others.

A special thank you to our wonderful teachers for making the summer so engaging and joyful for our youngest learners, and to our families for your continued support. We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to another exciting school year!

Alumni Spotlight

Mary Lee Dunn, an alumna, graduated from St. Mary of the Assumption High School in 1975. She spent many years working for the Department of Commerce as a journalist. She stopped in for a visit this afternoon and reminisced with a1974 yearbook! She was able to share about how much the St. Mary’s campus has changed over the last 50 years, as well as some of her highlights during her time at St. Mary’s. We always love when our alumni stop in to share about their St. Mary’s experiences and memories!

Facilities Update

While students have been enjoying their summer break, our Facilities Team has been hard at work preparing the school for another year. Throughout the summer, they have been busy waxing all the hallways and floors, painting and refinishing the stairwells, giving the auditorium a fresh new look with a bright coat of paint, assembling new furniture, and tackling countless other projects across the building. Their dedication, attention to detail, and hard work ensure that our school is clean, safe, and welcoming for students, families, and staff. We are incredibly grateful for everything Eddie, John, Edwin, and Ronald do behind the scenes to get St. Mary's ready for the first day of school!

Update from Dean Kfoury

While the classrooms may be a bit quieter this summer, the planning for an incredible 2026-2027 school year is in full swing! Dean Kfoury has been hard at work developing new opportunities that will help our S.T.A.R.S., families, and faculty thrive.

Some of the exciting initiatives currently in the works include:

  1. Leadership opportunities for our 5th and 6th grade students, empowering them to serve as role models and make a meaningful impact within our school community
  2. Collaborative field trip planning with teachers to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that bring classroom lessons to life.
  3. Expanded student leadership and engagement opportunities that encourage service, collaboration, school spirit, and student voice
  4. New parent engagement initiatives designed to help us learn, grow, and partner together in supporting every child's academic, social, and emotional success

We can't wait to bring all of these initiatives to life when our students return in September!

Student Speaker Series

Our Dean of Students, Nicole Kfoury, has been working hard this summer to develop a new and improved Student Speaker Series. This program will help in connecting students with professionals and leaders from a wide variety of careers and backgrounds to inspire curiosity, broaden perspectives, and spark future aspirations.

Interested in speaking? If you're a leader or expert in your field and would be willing to volunteer an hour to share your experience with our students, Dean Kfoury would love to hear from you! Please reach out to her at nkfoury@stmarys-brookline.org explaining your interests and general availability.
