A Letter from Mr. Savage

Our Lady Mustangs got their first taste of TVL action this past Tuesday night when they travelled to Doniphan West to play the Mustangs and the Troy Trojans! Our Lady Mustangs swept both matches to move their season record to 4-2. The squad participated in the Marysville Invitational on Saturday where they earned victories over Riley County and Chapman but lost a pair of close ones to Nemaha Central and Concordia. Their next contest will be on September 5th at Onaga for three more TVL match-ups.

We are always looking for qualified people to become Emergency Substitute Teachers through the Kansas Sate Department of Education Licensing Program. A person who has at least 60 college credit hours from an accredited college can apply and become a part of our team. This provides a person a great opportunity to work with our students and help our district as well. If you are interested you can call my office or the Central Office and we can assist you with the process!

Members of the local Rotary group made a very nice donation to our facilities by gifting us a ticket booth for the east gate of the football field and track. Obviously, this allows us to have two gates open when our crowd arrives for our home games. We would like to thank the Rotary members for this gift and for remembering us here at Valley Heights!

This week we have been conducting the Fastbridge tests for all students, grades 7-12. The tests cover the areas of ELA and Math and help us identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student. We then use these results to assist the students in working on strengthening those skills that need reinforcement. We use the Fastbridge tests at the start of the school year and at the end of both the first and second semesters in order to continually monitor progress.

As always, we are in full swing with our activities! I have already mentioned our high school volleyball teams have started competitions and as I write this article or Junior High football and volleyball squads and cross country programs are preparing for the start of their seasons tonight! Cross Country will run at Concordia and the JH programs travel to Hanover. We want to wish our coaches and athletes the very best of luck as we enter the fall sports season.

Remember – we have no classes on Monday, September 4th! However, we will be hosting the Centralia Panthers in a JV Football game which will start at 5:00 pm. We are excited to be able to play some JV games this year and we invite all of you to attend and cheer on our Mustangs!

Have a great week!

Mr. Savage
