Emergency Response Practice
A school-wide emergency drill will take place on December 5th in collaboration with the Belleville Police Service.
To provide for the safety of students and staff, schools are required to have plans in place to respond to a wide range of emergency situations. Emergency plans include reviewing and practicing the types of emergency response: lockdown, hold and secure, shelter in place and emergency evacuation. Over the past week we have reviewed emergency response procedures in our classrooms.
- Lockdown: Response to a major incident or threat of school violence within school or school area.
- Hold and Secure: Response to on-going situations outside the school that are not related to the school.
- Shelter in Place: Response to an external situation which may or may not be related to the school. (Example: environmental situation or an extreme weather related situation in the neighbourhood).
- Emergency Evacuation: Response to a bomb threat or explosive incident at or near the school. Note: This stage will not be practiced.

Safe Arrival Absence Reporting
Beginning December 4, 2023, we will be implementing the Safe Arrival Student Absence Reporting System as our primary process for families to report student absences.
SafeArrival is a system used by HPEDSB schools to send messages to families by email, SMS text, and telephone. Care givers will be able to report student absences, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using their choice of a mobile app, the SafeArrival website, or an interactive toll-free phone number. Future absences can be reported anytime.

Our next opportunity for students to access food for home will be Friday Dec. 15.
