Classwork

Our work done in class, aka Formative Assessments, is the largest part of the students grade! This section involves daily participation and focus during the lessons. Students are given time during the class to complete these assignments and turn them in. Please make sure this is a priority because it is such a huge part of the final grade.

Homework

Homework is assigned on a day to day basis depending on what we are doing that day. Homework should be completed each night it is assigned and brought back the following day. However, it is always accepted after the due date for a late deduction. A late deduction is better than not turning it in at all!

Students are told what the homework pages are each day they are assigned.

Homework workbook pages are posted in SCHOOLOGY in case it is forgotten.

From the desk of Ms.Carpenter

Greetings cool cat parents! It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the October. The scholars have been preparing for their first check point assessment. They will be testing on Tuesday October 27,th. The scholars will also be working on main idea and comparing and contrasting. We will continue our study in Westward Expansion. The first novel for the module is ,"Thunder Rolling in the Mountains". It addresses westward expansion of the European settlers and the Native Americans that occupied the land. I have added new academic vocabulary to our list for this week. Please feel free to discuss the new words with your scholar . We are looking forward to developing strong positive relationships with each student as well as our families. Thank you parents for all that you will do to help your scholar achieve their academic goals.

Homework

Homework will be assigned two days a week. It should be completed the same evening and returned the next day. Students will bring a Wednesday folder home weekly that contains important information for parents to review and or sign and return.

ELA Grading Policy

Students will be given time to work on assignments during class each day. All assignments not completed during class will need to be completed at home as homework and returned the next day. Homework assignments need to be returned the next day of school, also. Makeup work can be completed from home on Schoology.

All assignments will be posted in Schoology, but students will have an option to do work on paper for some assignments. Do NOT use Schoology to check on students grades or for completion of assignments unless they were absent. Use your parent portal to check grades and assignment completion. The assignments in Schoology are there as an option for students who are absent to complete work while they are out.

Grades will be taken and calculated as follows:

Formative Work (55% of total grade)

  • IReady (80 points)
