Hello Fall! Hello Fall!

CUES Updates

Hello!

We welcome in Fall and Bully Prevention month this October.

This month I will continue finishing up the Quick Checks with individual students. I love being able to spend a few minutes with each student, welcoming them back to school and checking in so they know where to find me if needed and checking their well being.

October is Bully Prevention Month so we will be celebrating Unity day on October 16th. Please have your student wear the color orange on this day to be unified in stopping bullying. I will be doing grade level guidance lessons on preventing and stopping bullying as well throughout this month.

  • The Character Strong word of the month for October is RESPONSIBILITY. We will be doing different lessons and activities to emphasize the word. We also have family activities that parents can do with their child. Teachers will be sending these in their newsletters.
  • The Student of the Month ceremony is during the day this year. More information will be sent individually for this event.
  • One teacher from each grade level will be piloting an SEL curriculum this year, which is free through a grant from the state of Michigan. Those teachers will use a hybrid SEL curriculum of Character Strong and Navigate 360.

I look forward to connecting with each of your students throughout the month. We have had a terrific start to the year!

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns -krista.schatzle@myeagles.org or 592-2181.

Mindfulness Moment

Each month I will be posting a Mindfulness Moment for students and their families to try at home. This month the mindfulness moment is Walking Through and Enjoying Nature. Take a walk through the woods, fields, and/or a river, lake or pond this month as the leaves change and fall. This is especially cool when the leaves at at their peak. Then go through the senses - Once in the woods or in a comfortable spot in a field or by a river, lake, or pond, stop and sit. Listen to the sounds, feel the leaves and Earth below you and the breeze on your face, look at all the varying colors, and taste the crisp air on your tongue. Enjoy the moment of just being one with nature. Studies have shown that being immersed in nature can lower anxiety and stress levels as well as improve cognitive functioning and lower blood pressure. Not only is nature good for the soul but it is good for the body as well!
