Good afternoon WMS community,
We hope you enjoyed the nice weekend. As we start the second month of our school year, things move quickly. Along with our NWEA testing, grade-level class assessments are also underway. Staying on top of homework assignments and study guides helps students prepare for unit assessments. Please check assignments with your student in PowerSchool and in the Homework Huddle linked below.
Another way to ensure success is to attend school every day and arrive on time. This month, we celebrate 121 students with perfect attendance. These students were on time and present. We awarded them additional tickets for our weekly and monthly raffles.
In the coming weeks, we will practice an off-campus evacuation drill. Some emergencies require the school to evacuate to another location. Please let your students know we will conduct this drill, and it will not be announced in advance.
Nonnewaug High School will be hosting our annual 8th grade open house on Thursday 10/15. If a student is interested in the agriscience program, they should arrive by 5:30 for an opening presentation in the Auditorium, followed by tours. WMS students not interested in the agriscience program should arrive at 6:30 in the auditorium for a presentation followed by tours. Please see the attached flier for more information.
WMS will host a curriculum information night on October 6th from 6 to 7 p.m. We will discuss the English Language Arts, Math, and Science curricula, our in-district assessments, and how to interpret the parent reports sent home after each assessment period. Please see Dr. Fernandez’s letter, linked here, for more information.
Some of you may have noticed that WMS has a clothing bin in our drop-off area when dropping off or picking up students. Please drop off any clothing; proceeds from the clothing benefit WMS and MES PIM and PTO.
WMS is excited to celebrate CT Grown during CT Kids Week! Through Region 14 Food Services, students are enjoying locally grown Honeycrisp apples from Hidden Gem Orchard in Southbury. This week, WMS students will also have the chance to sample these fresh, local apples in a special recipe at lunch. It’s a great way for our students to enjoy Connecticut-grown food while learning about and supporting local agriculture! Thanks to our food service staff for providing this opportunity for our students.
Reminder: This Wednesday is a shortened day with a 1:00 dismissal for teacher Professional Learning. There is no school on Friday for teacher Professional Learning. No school Monday, October 12th, in observance of Columbus Day.
Have a great week,

Region 14 and All-Star Transportation uses the Stopfinder App
Stopfinder is an easy-to-use, all-in-one app that allows you to have the most accurate information about your student’s bus schedule at anytime from anywhere. You can also create GeoAlerts for your student, which will notify you when the bus has arrived or departed from any location on your student’s route, including their assigned bus stop and school.
GeoAlert Alert Zones can be created for individual students allowing you to customize the Alert Zone based on their bus route.
Stopfinder can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Directions for the download can be found at
